I use a couple Samlex models. I use them on my HET and I use them on clients construction equipment when I do installs. One is 60 amps the other is 30 amps.
Erik's surplus has the adapter cables from civilian 7 pin to the military connection. I've got one I use for recoveries and change the rear bulbs with LEDs. Once home I add in a civilian cable with end leaving the limitary cables as well as to pull with any of my vehicles.

I had both my outside door handles off to get tem keyed. Not a big deal. A 10mm bolt I believe is what held one in. It takes a little maneuvering to get heroes loose but they'll come loose.

My F-450 hauled a couple (one at a time) 425 miles one way. No problem. On a trailer! That thing is big and heavy to pull with no tongue weight, it would definitely shove you through an emergency stop at 55mph. Be safe, if no air brake equipped truck, haul it or have it hauled.

Banks Power offers the Duramax as a crate engine with a harness and computer without many of the emissions crap required on many new vehicles. Last I had looked I think it was about $13k.
I may be interested as well. If you send out information let me know. It would bea good excuse for a dive trip in January. Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......
