Best mechanical transfer case with 2WD option for HMMWV

I did a vortec 8.1 swap a few years ago in a 1969 Corvette using a Painless LS style wire harness and computer (you have to make a small mod to the crank sensor wire) and mated it to a richmond six speed. This should bolt right up too since it is the same in the rear as the prior big block bolt...

Best mechanical transfer case with 2WD option for HMMWV

I like donuts! I'm trying to figure right now how that 6.21 non-turbo is going to push that truck in 4th in lockup. Mine with the pedal nearly matted barely holds 55 with the three speed trans. I assume that diesel likes to lug, so perhaps locking and dropping the RPM will let it churn...

Best mechanical transfer case with 2WD option for HMMWV

Was out running in mine this weekend - 55 MPH is pretty much IT with a 6.2 and three speed trans. This is a must have mod going forward.

    12 volt to trailer wiring

I would say less than 5 - 10 amps per bulb. Amps x volts = watts. So if you know the watts of the bulb you can figure the amps. These relays will hold a standard trailer on old school bulbs no problem.

Battery disconnect switch that fits? M998

Here is what I came up with. But in retrospect I should have gotten the other type of switch and put it where the original auxiliary port was under the front corner of the passenger seat - then I could access it without lifting the seat cover. What I did do is have enough cable due to that...

Bed covers, seat belts & Storage ideas for M998

You probably saw the episode of Dirt Everyday where they get a GOV PLANET Humvee and take it out through sand dunes, jumps, and rock crawl. Before they do, they weld a cage in it working with the existing system. It is pretty slick, they bore a hole through the B pillar roof and run tubes...

two man - rear door cover mod to short door conversion?

I'm thinking of a mid time solution to a four man option while I save my pennies for the full conversion. Anybody done this...or tell me why it won't or will work? I'd like to unbolt the two man rear bed side cover door skins and cut the front flange area off where they bolt to the B pillar...

    12 volt to trailer wiring

I'm happy with just pulling a 12 volt off the back battery and routing through three relays. It is very clean and neat when installed. You can keep the NATO plug in place and just splice into the needed 24 volt signal wires, or tuck it away and replace it with a standard 7 pin or even 4 pin...

Best mechanical transfer case with 2WD option for HMMWV

Something I thought of yesterday. “IF” you left the turbo 400 trans and found a 2wd drive option TC, then maybe you could put a gear vendors OD behind that and have an even better OD drop when you select two wheel drive (although front hubs will still be turning. )

Battery disconnect switch that fits? M998

I've got a switch coming now. I'm going to put it in the spare open compartment next to the batteries under the passenger seat. I think I can use the original ground cable to battery to go to the switch and just make up a new one to go to the shunt lug. Need to search around now for a...

Battery disconnect switch that fits? M998

that is clean looking. Actually an additional anti-theft device I would imagine.

    12 volt to trailer wiring

Yep, I actually held that controller in my hand a week ago as I went to visit them for some other parts. The thing I didn't care for other than the price is the fact you had to still plug it in each time and find somewhere to strap it to the trailer or whatever. It is a well built but bulky...

Battery disconnect switch that fits? M998

Is there a battery disconnect switch that will fit on the battery and under the passenger seat tray for a M998 A1? Would you put it on the negative or positive lead?

Best mechanical transfer case with 2WD option for HMMWV

You need to contact Predator or somebody that has been doing the Duramax swaps since they often put the entire drive train in - they might know how to best manipulate or replace the shifter to work - however...those might be fully electric and therefore only require putting a switch in the...

Best mechanical transfer case with 2WD option for HMMWV

I've been giving this swap a lot of thought. I've done 3 speed to 4 speed autos in cars where I went to bowtie overdrives and got shifter mods to accept the new pattern in the old unit. The one they make for my 69 Camaro is awesome and looks and acts stock. This is also fairly cheap for the...

Best mechanical transfer case with 2WD option for HMMWV

Are you getting a 700R4 already configured with the larger output spline for the Humvee stock transfer case? That is more costly. If you are going to use another transfer case, you could consider finding one as a donor 700R4 already mated up to a stock GM truck configuration that would take...

    12 volt to trailer wiring

I started to go this route. However, I have "Blazer" brand lamps on my boat trailer (already LED). I called and was advised by their tech line on the NOT to run on 24 volt and they are integrated circuits so I can't just swap out the bulbs - put me back to figuring out how to deal with the...

    12 volt to trailer wiring

I just succeeded in this conversion using various threads here at SS. My truck has the 24/14 volt charge system. Don't think that is a requirement for this, but what I did was pull off the rear battery for 12 volt and ran that through the 14+ circuit on the alternator. From there I ran to a...
