Changing the belts on my deuce

I can't cite the page in the TM but I'm sure I could find it pretty quickly. Anyhow, park truck and disable batteries first. Remove two bolts on the front of the compressor pulley. Rotate outer half of compressor pulley counterclockwise, remove out half, remove belt. Install new belt, tie a...

    M35a2 brake issue

One thing I recommend checking is the boot on the front of the master cylinder. The day before the 12' GA Rally, I decided to do a good check of my truck. I was a little low on fluid but did not have any wet drum backing plates. I checked the boot on the master and while it was dry, when I...

Veteran's State Park details, meet and greet and swap

Need to bump this to the top as well as 3DAngus did some great recon of the location. If a mod could clean this up and merge the two together, that'd be great.

    USMC markings?

Sir, times are changing, the stuff coming in from manufacturer's and the outflow from the depot's have TP (whatever it is) stenciled. Since this thread was started over "period correct" USMC markings, I'll weigh more toward the OP putting the 45 PSI or whichever on his truck!!!

    USMC markings?

M813rc, I even looked through the pictures and you're correct. The M in USMC is a strange cut. My truck was not repainted by me but by the Norway Crew as the tailgate in the photo is my Cave CUCV and I guess they didn't have access to the same type of stencil machine but the numbers match the...

    USMC markings?

I work at the Marine Depot and USMC markings are done like this!!! Sure, it's a CUCV, an MK 18 Trailer and an MK 48 but it's an example. For the Deuces, they didn't put them on the bumper, they put them on the left and right vertical parts of the hood about 5/8's of the way back and sometimes...

    Towing a deuce??

I should have been more specific concerning the scales I crossed. They were not DOT scales, they were the scales on the base that I work on and I was just curious about the weight. I can also tell you that my M1028 weighs 5580 pounds, my 93 Eclipse weighs 2,700 pounds, my 01' Trans Am weighs...

    Towing a deuce??

I'll chime in on the capacity of the towing truck argument. I picked up 5 Mep 003A's which weigh around 1,200 each, pulled a trailer that weighed about 1,500 with no trailer brakes. I took my combo on the scales with my 97' model 1500 Chevrolet powered by a 5.7L Gasser (Vortech) and we were...

    Loud tapping noise from transmission

My trans only seems to have a synchro on second and third. First will grind, 4th and 5th will grind. I don't even use the clutch anymore on those as they like to be dropped in at a "sweet spot" that I know of. I do know that a normal deuce is able to use the clutch when changing gears so long...

    Transmission noise

Just make sure you spin the input to the transfer around 2,500 rpm or so to replicate the speed it spins going about 45 mph down the road. You can do that with the trans shifted into 5th and tach sitting on about 2,100 rpm. That's when mine starts whining. You'll probably be disappointed...

what would you pay for an m1028?

I thought only the M1031's had the 205 case for the PTO function. I could be wrong. I've heard the 205 is the desired case due to it not having a chain to break. Not that a stock 6.2 could break a chain but stronger drivetrain components are better.

20 July SS'er Get Together at the Veterans State Park in Cordele GA.

Joe, the RV lots are $29 a night versus $25 a night for primitive camping. I'll pay the extra 4 a day to have power. Bring it with you though, we'll collectively scratch our heads and see if we can get it going.

    What should a MEP-002a / MEP-003a be worth?

And to top it off, I just checked his profile and he last checked this site last night. He posted that he knows the power of the internet and bends over backwards to maintain his reputation but hasn't posted a dang thing since late October of last year shorty before he screwed me over. I'm...

    What should a MEP-002a / MEP-003a be worth?

Just in case anyone does any dealing with the guy I called out, "Munchies", I would like to point at that he gave me $20 for the recovery and loadout. I lost money on the deal and I'm standing firm that I ain't picking up squat for someone else out of Albany. What was even more of a slap in...

    M923 won't start

Even though I don't care for you over some comments concerning some training. The most common problem I've found is the wire coming from the PCB to the Starter Solenoid. I've spliced new wire into quite a few of those on the M939 Series trucks. Test by probing the wire coming out of the bottom...

    New 5 ton owner question

I pulled wheels off of a 5 ton that was gone through at RRAD and it had it on all of them. Didn't stop the impact a bit.

Airpack or master cylinder failure? Both? Neither?

Just my 2 cents on airpacks. I had a long style that had long been abused by no one draining the air tanks after a run. When I first got the truck home, I drained the wet tank and could have likely watered my garden with the amount of water that came out. My truck had a very hard pedal, it...

    Deuce not starting, now what?

Do you have any smoke while cranking? The multi in these trucks does not care much about fuel quality, only quantity. When I picked mine up, the JP8 or Diesel was likely 10 years old or so. It smelled like varnish more than it smelled like Diesel. The truck ran strong on that mixture but did...

    Tire flat!!

I'm just thinking out loud here but if the moisture has ruined the sealing surfaces, why not just install a tube. Sure, it will succumb to the same failure at some point down the road but it seems to me to be a simple solution to a common failure point. When the first tube fails, install...
