That would be my guess also. I had the same problem and it was the transmission.
When they rebuilt the transmission they plugged the drain back hole with RTV.
Just a FYI I looked in the TM and the p/n is the same for all the trucks. I would think if you needed a different one they would list it.

One thing I think is a down fall of the M939 is to use the transmission PTO the truck has to be in neutral.
That sounds like the problem is with the unit. here is one for sale in the classified.

When I pulled my transmission for leaking out the bell housing hole and replaced the rear main, someone had used RTV on the front of the transmission housing and stopped up the drain back hole.
