From our past correspondence, there are too many things wrong with your truck for the dash plate to be right. IF it were correct the number 0525-21986 would be stamped in the left frame rail under the front fender. If that number is not there, the data plates have been switched. Based on the...
The big question is - is the VIN you supplied from the data plate, or the frame rail? If from the data plate, give us the number from the frame rail please.

David
Willard Rockwell bought Timken Detroit in 1953. In 1997 Rockwell International spun off the axle business as Meritor.
Now, are you sure your truck was built as a M35A2, or did the army repower a gasser?

David
Re: RE: M35A1 or A2?
While your at it - how about posting (or PMing) the mfrs serial number (VIN) - that is what will tell what model it is (and it will help with my research).
Best wishes,
David
Like ACE said, be sure the little sleeves are in place. Someone mentioned headers. I know the 270 was popular with racers back in the 50s, and I'd be surprised if the 302 wasn't as well. Various aftermarket intake and exhaust set ups were made for the 270, including multiple carb...
Its an A2. The last of the A1's was builit in 1964, and none of them left the factory with drop sides. The A1 was manufactured with a LDS-427 engine, which was considered the "standard" engine for the truck until June 1965.
From your posting, I think the exhaust orientation is what is...
I have some friends that collect WWII armor, and use them in reenactments and "tactical events (imagine a life-size chess game) - and they are equipped with live - firing weapons (blanks for these events of course). I've gone with them to a few events and had a blast (pardon the pun). My work...
Totally different engine design. The OA-331 was new in 1949, and IIRC the R6602 basic design goes back to WWII. (Army Air Force Ward LaFrance crash trucks built on the M1A1 chassis used the R6602's predecessor to power the pump).
331 is sleeved, 6602 is not.

Precisely...without digging the contract up yet again - upping the price of a truck a thousand dollars increases GL's take something like a hundred bucks. It would be absurd to risk prison and a multi-million dollar venture for such small illicit profits.
IIRC, anyone with a credit card and a...
RE: GL
I've posted the details of how GL's contract relates to the pricing on SS previously - you should be able to find it through the search function fairly easily. The thrust of it is that GL pays the govt a VERY low percentage of acquisition cost for items (the actual percentage varies...
To my knowledge - there is no LD427. There is a LDS-427 - the first Multifuel, and the S standing for turboSupercharger. As John mentioned earlier - that turbo was to make HP - not clean the exhaust as was the case with the later LDT.
The M35A1 had a box seat - and so did the M35, and so...
That is not correct. Although I think all factory-built Multifuel extra long wheel base cargo trucks have a dropside, that was not the case for gassers.

David
Are you sure it has been removed? On the older trucks it is simply stamped in a different place - on the right (passenger) side frame rail. These numbers are typically 6 digits - and on many of the trucks from this time frame the manufacturing date (day, month, year) is stamped right next to...
RE: oooh ooooh that smell
Steve,
I have the Aberdeen Proving Ground test reports on the GMCs - and here is the thrust of the electric brakes.
The concern about using them for extended periods of time is two fold. First of all - if you were to say park the truck in the motorpool and leave this...
Despite having done a book specifically on High Speed Tractors - I don't remember if Stuart parts will interchange.
Kevin Kronlund in Spooner Wisconsin has a parts high speed tractor - I don't remember if it was a M5 or a M4.
Same holds true for Liberty Restorations in Iowa. Both advertise...
Well, I've looked at hundreds (thousands) of trucks and made notes. 0539-11881 was made by General Products and had registration number 04H66471 - obviously a 1971-assigned number. 0539-11996 was also made by General Products, and had registration number 04H85771 - also a 1971 assigned number...
