    Difference in Grills

Yep, the tubular grille was new to the M809 series. Note that the M809 has a grille shaped loosely like that of a M35, whereas the earlier trucks (gas, Mack, and Multifuel) had a flat grille. Regards, David

    Difference in Grills

RE: Differences The tubular grille I believe to be the earliest grille. I've been told that the flat bar stock grille was created at the request of the USMC, but I have yet to confirm this. Right now I think that the bar stock grille came along about 1978, but I've done far too little research...

M35A2 Passenger Bench seat left end mounting method??

Kyle, Thanks for your kind words about my books. With regard to your seats, first, you are correct about your supposition that the passenger seat back folds down to become a platform for the gunner when the ring mount is installed. That is why the seat back has safety tread. There are two...

    Deuce VIN

RE: Got my M35A2 in home!! I'm gonna chime in here too since I've gotten lots of queries about "identification numbers." This is the type of plate that seems to cause so much confusion with GL and DMV employees. It shows an "identification number" - which is a combination first of the...

    Can I Burn Crude Oil

There are not many questions about the Multifuel that you can ask that Uncle Sugar (or Continental) hasn't already asked. And this is one that has already been asked, back in 1978. Everything you should need to know is here...

    MFR and Year unknown

Your truck is a 1970 Kaiser Jeep, the original army registration number was 5E61670. The VIN number is C124-12512. Welcome to the forum - lots of info like this to be had here for free, consider making a financial contribution to the site so this type info can continue to flow freely...

    Deuce VIN

Re: I should had posted this plate No, this is not correct. This arguably the most common mistake made by folks trying to date their trucks. Trucks purchased under contract DAAE06-70-C-0001 were still being delivered (and built) in 1972, for example. The year code of the contract pertains...

    Hydramatic Heaven

Re: RE: Hydramatic Heaven The 302 and 303 transmissions are military, and in addition to the G-749 trucks were used in a number of armored vehicles. Regards, David Doyle

    Deuce VIN

RE: I got my M35A3 today, too many numbers... AM General built many of the M35A3, but they were also built by the Army, in Mississippi, and IIRC, Kansas. But this particular truck is a 1998 AM General, with the registration number of NK0MA1. The numbers in IMG_3004.jpg are common to almost all...

    Why 24V system

Re: 24 Volts? DING DING DING We have a winner! According to the mililtary documents from the 1940s (and this should be correct!), the reason for the 24 volt electrical system was to ensure radio compatibility. Note the date on the attached Detroit Arsenal image. Regards, David Doyle

    Reinforced Deuce frames

Memphis Equipment routinely adds fishplate reinforcements to truck frames. That being said, they start wtih an absolutely bare frame and use magnetic drills to bore the holes, and use huck rivets to secure the fishplates. This typically is a multi-day process, that I'd be reluctant to attempt...

    3 Lever History

RE: Re: RE: 3 Lever History The origin of the three lever light switch goes back to WWII, and a starter/ignition switch, as shown below in a T26E3 Pershing tank. The light switch goes back to 1948/1949. The first Reo (M34) ran in 1949, well ahead of GMC's M135/M211. But I believe the M38...

    Reinforced Deuce frames

The reinforcement on the earth boring machine goes only from the tandems to the rear of the frame, and is not as substantial as that of the M108. Regards, David

    VIN Question for SF-97

Re: RE: VIN Question for SF-97 I beg to differ. No M35A2 VIN begins 04G. That is the registration number(comparble to the tag number), this number is to be painted on the inner door surface, and under the hood. In some instances the registration number is also stamped on the data plate. The...
