    VIN Question for SF-97

Tom, if you would like to PM me with the numbers you've found, I can tell you which (if any) are the VIN. I can probably also verify the year the truck was manufactured. While for most trucks the VN is located on the driver's side frame rail forward of the centerline of the axle. It is a...

    What about this GMC?

Great looking truck Bill! While my initial thought is that Bill is right, this is a "home made" fire truck, it should be noted that the military had more than one type of fire truck based on the 1 1/2 ton chassis, and I definately agree the truck found is not like Bill's. It may be a modified...

Ace of Spades 5 ton gun truck

It should be noted that the replica at the top of this thread, as mentioned, was built by Sammy Seay. Mr. Seay has some experience with the Ace of Spades, as he served as gunner on the Ace of Spades back in Vietnam in about 1971. Not only should the recreation garner respect, moreso the...

    M62 or m543

The M62 came first, and has an Austin-Western crane. The M543 came next, and had a Gar Wood designed crane, supposedly because A-W refused to license their design to others. Many believe the 62 to be smoother operating than the 543. HTH, David Doyle

    What are these for

Here you go. BTW, the problem with the military lifted tow set up is that you wind up with two different pivot points. The towbar pivoits at the pintle hook, and the lift pivots in the cable/hook. Not nearly as smooth as a commercial setup. Regards, David Doyle

    Future purchase questions.

A lot of folks like the four wheel steer models - so many so that many two wheel steer models have been converted to four wheel steer. To a purist (not that I know any of those rofl ) this is herasy. If this is going to be concern to you, better to know on the front end that after the...

    5 Ton Wrecker ?

RE: wrecker Nit picking, but its a M108 Crane Truck. The deuce wrecker is the M60 (which has a rear winch). The M108 was intended primarily as a bomb service truck. The giveaway that it is a 2 /12 ton truck is the Reo engine- and if he rebuilt the engine, he knows what it is. For further...

    What Engine in a 1965 M109

    That is a LD-465 Multifuel
  20. D

    LDS-465-1A in a gov M35A2???

Yes, the army installed some LDS-465 in deuces. This is because the EPA prevented the continued production of the Multifuel engine, forcing the army to use there existing stock of engines for repairs and rebuilds. However, when installed in the deuce, the LDS had its IP settings reset to the...
