I suspect that if there is no build up of corrosion or crud in the tongue that the shock is bad. swapping the shocks between the two trailers would confirm or deny that guess.
The shock should keep the trailer brakes from actuating in most backing situations. Backing loaded over rough ground...
Welcome aboard.
If you have any questions about your M1009 hit the search button at the top of the page and select "advanced search" That will take you to a list where you'll find all the required maintenance and parts manuals on the top line. Not far below that is the CUCV forum where there...
I'm heading out of state on Sunday morning so if anyone wants anything listed in my post on page 64 of the thread I'll need to know by Saturday afternoon so I can get it to doghead.
Thanks and enjoy the rally.

Not a problem. I could get it JT after dh is done with it.
I need to get back to JT about what MKT related stuff is laying around the buildings anyway.

JimK's post is more detailed than what TM 9-8617 shows. That said, I'll be in NC next week and after I get back I could see what it will take to make a searchable PDF of the manual. They as about as scarce as hen's teeth and this is one of the two cleanest copies I've ever seen. It would...
I have a copy of TM 9-8617 (May 1955) WINCHES, POWER-TAKEOFFS, POWER DIVIDER AND HYDRAULIC EQUIPMENT
I have to get you a deuce cargo cover for clintogf so I can lend it to you then. If you need it for a while that's fine.
It has the info on the rebuild etc for the tensioner and level wind...
islandguydon, if you are looking for a complete hot water personnel heater for a deuce or similar I have a NOS one for $250. I have an M809 style air diverter for $20 if sold with the heater.
I won't be there but doghead could bring it. Just be nice to him....

Eric, it was kind of tough trying to measure to the U joint by myself but my shaft is 65" between the welds where the yoke end and spine end shoulders are. What do you think-add 1/2" for the portion under the welds? there's a foar amount of leeway due to the overall length of the spline versus...
Kevin, I sold my only pintle at Gilbert but have one of the rectangular tubing braces that goes over the pintle if you need it. No charge-I'll send it with dh if you need it.
I may have a panel bezel, I'll get back to you if I do.

Ouch, I've been in APCs and recovery vehicles when they slid sideways down slope in mud or on icy terrain and it's sickening feeling knowing that you no longer have any control over where the vehicle is going or which side will be up when it gets there.
Lance
dh, given how deep that rascal was mired the mire resistance alone was likely twice the excavator's weight. Add in the slope resistance from the slope it needed to come up and the inability to get a pull down the long axis of the tracks it sure was stuck bad.
I'd guess that short of an M88...
tuckered, the surge brakes are hydraulic brakes that have a brake master cylinder on top of the telescoping trailer tongue. When the towing vehicle slows down the trailer surges forward and compresses the fluid in the master cylinder which in turn sends brake fluid under pressure to the wheel...
Gimpy, since I intend to sell my deuces and buy more 5 ton trucks I'll only sell it if it goes with the heater. I bought some used last year from these guys but they only have a new one now.
