Picked up 804a and 802a today and looking for advise.

I always tip the guys in the yards who load me up. I’ve been able to get to know a few of them along the way. These are the same guys that take the photos, and check them out. They all tell me that they don’t spend a lot of time to get them running. They’ll fill the crankcase with oil, they’ll...

Picked up 804a and 802a today and looking for advise.

I also buy these units from auction, sight unseen. It’s a gamble, a crap shoot…however you want to say it. Most of the units that I bid on are a few hundred miles away. When and if I win them I’ll go and haul them home with my flatbed trailer, or if they’re trailer mounted I just tow them home...

    Main power indicator

Thanks, a lot of good comments came out of this thread. I also get the messages from my power company when the main line power goes out and when it comes back. But they’re not instantaneous. Usually within an hour or so. It was fun to read all of the comments from other members here. The one...

    Main power indicator

Well, that's my problem. I have to shut off the mainline power before I can turn on the 60 amp breaker for the generator. It's the interlock that I have. But...now that I'm thinking (it's scary sometimes I know!) you're right. The voltage is right there at the panel for both sources. Ok...the...

    Main power indicator

I like it! The inductive pick-up is a neat feature. Very cool, thanks Scoobyshep!

    Main power indicator

We just got a little snow here in the NW, and of course many of us lost power. Mine was out for a mere 3 hours today. I’m set up with an MEP-804A 10kw unit connected to my main panel with a 60 amp breaker and an interlock. It serves me well and I’m grateful to have it. It’s always interesting...

    MEP-804A Fuel Fill Neck

I found a place on-line a few years ago that will custom make hoses with a different inlet and outlet size. But, as Daybreak pointed out, material is everything. The one on the right was one that I had made for an LS swap project I was working on. And it’s silicone. Not good for this application

    MEP-804A Fuel Fill Neck

I found one on eBay for $85. A little steep for a hose, but it is a pre-formed hose. A wire wound hose like was previously suggested is out of the question. It measures 4.250” ID at the top and 3.00” ID at the bottom and about a 30 degree bend.

Good thread from a couple of years ago. Thanks for sharing it!

    MEP-804A Fuel Fill Neck

Thanks, I guess I should have provided pictures and dimensions. I’m not at home right now, but it’s more like 3” diameter on the bottom where it connects to the tank and about 4” diameter where it connects to the fuel fill neck above. It also has about a 30 degree angle on it. I’ll shoot some...

    MEP-804A Fuel Fill Neck

Good morning. I'm learning more about these wonderful machines all of the time. In the past 4 years or so I've had a variety of the 8XX series of generators go through my hands now. I recently brought home (2) of the MEP-804A units on trailers from Hermiston, Oregon. With these (2) units I've...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

Cool conversation. I was wondering though. Since your supplying power to (2) different 200-amp service panels with this MEP-804A, you have the "potential" to overload one or more of the L1, L2 or L3 legs of the generator. Sure, the generator is "supposed" to protect itself by shutting down for...

    Advice Please: Planning 4L80 Conversion

It's always better to error on the safe side. Since the mounts are placed towards the rear, it would be good to place a jack stand under the front of the engine somewhere, like on the crank pulley?

Braking resistor used as a load bank

Pictures are always worth a thousand words! Sorry for the long post, and you’re welcome if it was your bed time and I put you to sleep!

Braking resistor used as a load bank

Thanks for your reply to this older thread! So, as mentioned in post #7 I’ve been using a brine tank method. As much as I was hoping to build or purchase a resistive type load bank, the lost art of using a brine tank has proven to be easy, clean and so much less expensive. In the last 18 months...

    MEP-805A going into Overspeed

I'm not sure if it applies here, but in my experience with the MEP-8XX series generators they have all had issues similar to this at start-up which can be rectified by simply holding the master switch in the start position for 3-5 seconds after the engine starts. No worries, the starter will...

    Mep-804B help?

You’re probably correct. His post was kind of vague. It didn’t say that he was getting a low fuel fault, but that’s more than likely what it is.

    Mep-804B help?

I thought that the MEP-804A and B models have a mechanical fuel lift pump when running off of the main tank? I believe the only electric pump on those models is used for auxiliary fuel supply, unless I’m mistaken. But I suppose that they still have a shut-down for low fuel? In that case a faulty...

Braking resistor used as a load bank

Thanks, I eventually succumbed to the fact that the braking resistors weren’t the way to go. Then, I stumbled on a Catapillar document that was dated in 1975. It describes in detail how to use a brine tank to put a load on generators. I’ve been experimenting with that method for a while now. It...

    MEP-804A Overspeed

Is is possible to disconnect the R2 variable resistor for the frequency adjustment before starting the engine? Will it run that way? I’ve had to replace the R1 voltage adjustment variable resistor on one of the 15KW units that’s gone through my hands in the past. It had been turned past the...
