    Recovery disaster - Long

UPDATE - Finally caught up with the local good ol' boy diesel mechanic, who has a real good reputation. We're going to pay our respects on Monday morning to see what can be done. He says he is familiar with the M818 and the Cummins NHC 250, so that's a good sign. I'll probably have to shell...

    Recovery disaster - Long

Recovery disaster- Pics on pg 3, Final Update Pg 6 Truck is fixed - Update on bottom of page 6 What started out as a great trip to pick up my M871 flatbed trailer left me stranded on the side of the road at dark 85 miles from home. I left home on Wed. at 0730 to reach Ft. Polk by 1300 to...

    Towing A M105 Trailer?

I also used an F150 to tow one 450 miles. Took off the cover, bows, front and rear stakes, and dropped the tailgate to put the 12v magnetic lights from walmart on the end of the bed. Left the side stakes up.

    Diesel

Marine diesel, like farm use diesel, has slightly higher sulfur, and no highway use tax added to the price. I don't know if it is also dyed a different color, so the police can detect the difference.

Need help to deliver a pump to Ill.

I picked up a pump and hoses from Ft. Polk for TCody in Ill. I'll be travelling Sunday from LA through Birmingham, Atlanta to Spartanburg, and stopping by Clinto's place. Eventually, I'll be going to Greensboro and Raliegh, NC next week. Is there anyone along that route who is planning a...

    100's of trucks at GL

The trucks are still sitting in a yard at Camp Shelby's south gate. When I passed about a month ago, the gate was closed and a sign was up looking for mechanics. The gate is open sometimes and closed sometimes when I pass by. From a distance, it looks like most of the trucks are good for...

    WTH, Found a tank today.

I'm going to start crawling behind the NAPA stores in my area. Does anyone have the civilian part number for that NAPA part? Has anyone titled that in their state - think we could call it home-built? Sharp eyes, and I'm in for shares at the scrap value if the paper trail checks out. I'd...

    Locked Military padlocks

I've got 5 trucks and several lockable trailers. Each truck has at least one tool box and steering wheel chain (the M818 has two tool boxes), and I'm thinking of making the battery boxes lockable so I can use a battery terminal switch. That's too many keys to keep track of, so I use the...

    Hauling with the xm818

Is that the M871 trailer? It looks like the one I waiting on the EUC to pick up at Fort Polk. Your rig looks nice. You've got a green tractor and a camo trailer, I've got a camo tractor and a green trailer.

    sf-97 for M813A1 in California

I believe that C325-1007 (is there a number missing?) is the manufacturer's vehicle ID number, and this should also be stamped on the frame behind the left front wheel. The frame number doesn't have the dash, so I would just use the number as C3251007 as the VIN.

    My New Deuce

Looks like it is in great shape, even with the psychedelic paint. :-P Make sure you do a good PM inspection after a trip of that length after sitting for so long. Especially look for signs of fluid leaks from axle seals or wheel cylinders. Also check all the fluid levels for any loss which...

    Current draw with vehicle off

I've noticed a spark on only one of my Deuces when I hook up the battery cables. That one came with fairly fresh but very dead batteries from GL. I put a battery post switch on the negative post of the first battery and keep it off unless running. I've been working on the other problems on...

Put the 5-ton and M119A1 trailer to work

I took the new M119A1 box trailer to pick up some square bales of hay. It was about a 2 ½ hour drive each way, since it’s been too dry to grow hay around here. Since it is normally a 2 hour drive, 25% slower wasn't too bad. We put 105 bales (about 5000 lbs) in the trailer with room to spare...

Why did you buy your deuce

My brother bought an old WWII ambulance back in the mid-60's. We got it running and he sold it and I went off to college. I thought it was neat at the time, but forgot about MVs until Katrina knocked us ass over teakettle. Saw pictures of the MVs in NOLA and reading about Sarge's post Katrina...
