    My (new) M1008...

Does the inside look like that? If not, go on. You still have the regulator after the pump. A regulator is also a check valve which shuts off flow when inlet pressure is less than outlet. I'm not trying to be an optimist here..

    My (new) M1008...

Hopefully the screen and transfer pump kept the nasty things out of the rotor. That is the heart of the injection pump. Transfer pressure can be adjusted using exhaust gas temperature and desired power but remember transfer pressure also advances timing, delay in timing will raise exhaust gas...

    My (new) M1008...

How dry? If there is fuel inside the housing, it should be good. The next things after the screen would be the transfer pump. This isn't too difficult to service and there is no calibration to fuss with. After this is the pressure regulator and this would require speed based calibration...

    My (new) M1008...

High altitude fuel setting is less fuel. In a diesel, it is always running lean of peak exhaust gas temperature. In this engine specifically, far lean. High altitude means less air density so corresponding less fuel. With regards to your prior fuel system clog, that sounds like badly...

    My (new) M1008...

Sounds like the fuel metering valve is stuck shut. It must move freely as it opens under very light spring force and is closed by the centrifugal force of the governor fly weights. The shut off solenoid also closes this valve to shut off the engine so they like to stick in the closed...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I've taken pics on the sealing the new cores so all the air goes through the fins. I had replaced the seal on my RV rooftop AC and had leftover foam sealing materials. Plus I always have aluminum foil tape.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Remove the glove compartment, screws on the bottom of the hinge. Disconnect the draft door cables and heater hoses. Then remove the nuts on the firewall (4 IIRC). There is a screw joining the heater box to defrost plenum, remove this and the box should come out. If you have the M8 alarm...

What’s that ticking sound on the passenger side?

Fuel pump? I noticed mine after changing out a leaking one. Pumping fuel damps the pushrod movement. When there isn't fuel being pumped, the pushrod rattles. That is my story and I'm sticking to it.

    How to Jump Start CUCV

Back when the M35s were being auctioned by GL, I helped a friend liberate one with dead batteries using my car and a set of jumper cables, one battery at a time. I had to fix the brakes on the vehicle, used a little low air pressure on the master cylinder to set the wheel cylinder cups flat...

    4L80E question

Stock 3.08 gears in the 1009 vs 4.56 in all others makes a huge difference.

    M1009 Drivers side alternator

Voltage matters, amperage only dictates charge time. Use a 78 amp alternator and it might take a few more minutes to fully charge the battery. With my stock alternators, warm weather starts from cold take about 5 minutes to drop charge current to under 10 amperes. They only reach 70+ amperes...

    TrueTrac Differential..

The Dana clutch style LSD in the front of my M 1031 did fantastic during our last ice storm. Due to ice, I missed a turn so I back tracked through an industrial park..where I had to climb a rather steep snow covered driveway. 4H was like on cogs, including the turn back onto my intended...

    Intake noise explained

Found a few online calculators for intake runner optimization. The length and cross section area of the intake runners along with cam geometry give rise to volumetric efficiency at 3600 RPM. Odd? Not really. There is secondary, smaller node at 1800 RPM. The engine isn't turning itself...

FNG, first CUCV. What to do first...

Since 24 volt starter and isolated negative 27 SI alternator parts are available, keep it 24 volt. I have spares for both. I have a 7 inch Kindle which has the entire TM series on it, it goes in my bag of essentials. Little things like a 12 volt outlet or two are quite handy to add. I have...

Where is my injection pump leaking from?

The two most common points of leaking are the throttle shaft (both sides) and the advance mechanism (passenger side, lower). Since it runs, the core should get full rebuild value.

    M1008 hitch install.

I went with a class V only because I needed weight distribution. This converts tongue weight into a force couple (moment) right at the receiver tube. Kind of elegant overkill with air spring assist in the rear of the 1031. I removed the overload springs and have a much better ride.

For anyone needing new wheels for your M1009 8 inch wide

The 8 inch wide wheels for 8 lug vehicles work great. 4 inch back space. Make 255 85 16s look proper, not squeezed.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I have always said replace batteries every 4 years and you won't get stranded. But did I follow that in my car? Had to drive the 1031 to work yesterday. Then after work, using the truck to exchange the August 2017 dated battery for a new one. Yes, I deferred maintenance because my 35 year...

    Alternator rebuild source

There is a Delco rebuild shop in San Antonio near the airport. Wim Brisbin is the business name. Great service for starters and alternators.

Yes, my coolant valve works great to keep cabin cooler in the summer
