99.9999999999 % of problems rarely fix themselves. You might have gotten something that least little bit more tight and it fixed it. But, I would in this case look for a wire worn through, sometimes touching ground, if it happens again. And you should keep starting and stopping it a few times...

I know a guy, he lives here in town. An American. He was on active in Colorado, setting up a drop zone. He said there was not a cloud in he sky. Simply great weather. He leaned over to pick up something, and woke up in the hospital. The bolt blew him out of his boots. He is NOT the same fella I...
My ground mounts are made of wood, so my method is to use short pieces of 10AWG wire from panel to panel frames and then from the middle strap, a drop lead to a ground rod.
Should work too. But like I said, remove a panel in the middle and the ground stops there. And its labor intensive. But...

Gen set un-grounded?
I worked PV for 10 years. Everything from dog houses, 5-6 MW parks and 3-5 MW roof installations, and larger. In 2022 we put up 17% of the PV in Germany. We NEVER, EVER, put up lightning rods of any type. Depending of your mounting system, you may need, or not need...
Welcome Mark,
I am sure LITD set you up right, and I know he mentioned to down load the TM's and get smart on this gen set. Get in to the threads and read what others have done and what things have happened to them.
You really can not screw up F1 & F2. Its DC voltage.
If you haven't hooked up the VR yet, how can you test the hertz meter? No voltage, no hertz.
In picture #4 you have some unhooked wires. Tape the ends up.
The engine and generator don't cool through the enclosure, they have their own pumped air. Go ahead and insulate the enclosure. But, make sure your insulation will tolerate 50°C temperatures.
Of course the set cools through the enclosure. Thats why the gen sets all have a warning in TM and on...
TM 5-4210-219-10 , TM 5-4210-219-24 and TM 5-4210-219-24P ...or...
T.O.36A12-8-17-1, T.O.36A12-8-17-2, and T.O.36A12-8-17-4
These TM's are not released to the public. I am sure that if you look hard enough, someplace will have them. But we are not to post them in this forum.
