Welcome aboard! Have you gotten the GTB home yet?
A couple of years ago while cleaning up my Grandfather's old farm in northern CA, I found an old GTB painted yellow with a hand-made boom & winch on the rear overgrown with weeds. I sold it to a fellow from California City in the high desert...
Change the air dryer filter & use silicone grease (non-petroleum based) grease on the O-ring between the wheel halves and on the gasket/o-ring for the valve stem. That has cured the A3 wheel leak-downs I've helped with here.
I have one of those same engines in a GMC truck currently, and I LOVE that engine! It puts out much more than 100hp, closer to 150hp, and should do just fine in your Deuce.
DO NOT USE MULTI-GRADE OIL IN THAT DETROIT!!! That will cause scoring on your pistons & liners; use only DETERGENT-TYPE...
That's the same problem I'm having with my Deuce currently, and need to rebuild the Airpack. Mine actually gave the hard pedal and caused the brakes to drag!
I've had that happen to me with name-brand Made-In-USA jacks too, as well as have them get air in the hydraulic line & start to slowly come back down...
Safety is paramount when working with ANY jack!
The run-flats have a bead lock built in to their base; if your tire bead comes off the wheel, something is seriously wrong.
If you have a forklift or front-end loader, this will help you apply downward force to remove the tire/run-flat from the inner wheel half. Make sure you support the inner...
The "boggers" you refer to are most likely pickup/light truck tires, typically load range between 2575-3640 pounds...you'll regret putting these on your truck. Go with the heavy truck radials as dilligaf13 points out.
I picked up several 20-ton bottle jacks from Harbor Freight when they went on sale...they work wonderfully. I also carry large blocks of wood to prop up the jack on, so that it doesn't run out of cylinder lift before lifting the tire off the ground.
Good point, your area of the country is much more susceptible to colder temps than where I am...the heavier viscosity is definitely a requirement where I live, but maybe not such a good thing where you are, especially in the winter!
I like the simplicity & shear strength design; very effective. With the nice short height, you won't have to worry much about side-loading forces like with one that dropped down.
Good job! [thumbzup]
This could get expensive, as after installing the heavier wheels & tires you will understand the logic of upgrading to power steering.
That was the single best upgrade I did to my truck.
NAPA's house brand of lubricants is made by Valvoline; I'm very happy with them as I have replaced all the lubricants in my Deuce with these and they work GREAT.
