I’ve been stripping the white paint off the cab. I’ve tried several different ways to get this done but none were very satisfactory. Now I’ve gone old fashioned. Got out the electric drill and dug around in the sanding cabinet till I found one of those rubber disks that you remove a screw and...
I stay almost exclusively at KOA’s. The only time I can’t stay at one is by my procrastinating too long for reservations. I’ve seen every type of moving vehicle at these parks. In fact, they’re usually booked out months in advance for real popular places such as Yellowstone. I haul a 30 foot 5th...
Not sure what ship it was. I think it was the Inchon but I’ll have to ask one of my friends who went on the trip. The first two were taken in 1986, 6+/- months after I left the Marine Corps and three months after I joined the Air Force. I would have been on that trip if I’d re-enlisted. The...
Back in my day, we still had the A model. Big pain in the tookus but I learned how to be a mechanic and I had the best teachers in the world. My bird was 487.
Woot woot!!! I’m in heaven! My old squadron dropped by the local airport. Haven’t seen these guys in decades. One thing never changes: if it ain’t leaking, there ain’t any oil left. Pics:
Interesting information. Wish I’d seen this before my experiment with my 7778. Oh well, live and learn. The question I have is what can I use inline to provide circuit breaker protection for my radio and Vic-1? I have these circuit breakers. There’s a 30 amp, 25 amp and 3 15 amp circuit...
Got the second piece of metal removed. Cleaned up both sides and cleaned out the 4 mount holes that had some metal in them from getting welded. Got busy with the sanding disks and die grinder. Removed a bunch of red paint from the frame. More to come. Pics:
Finally getting time to continue this project. Friday I worked on getting some of the red paint off the frame. Dang stuff is everywhere! Today I went after a couple of pieces still attached to the very back of the frame. They’re what’s left of the cheesy frame extensions that stuck out from the...
This project is now on hold. Gonna take a bit more than a plug and cable swap. I’ll do more research and find an answer. Somehow I want to put a circuit breaker inline between the battery and the radio/intercom. I wonder is a 15 amp circuit would do the trick?
I don’t think there’s an approved cosmoline removal agent. Gasoline works pretty good, but it causes cancer. MEK works better but it causes cancer. Tric works okay but, yep, it causes cancer. If you go waaay back, the old school method was boiling water. It doesn’t cause cancer unless it’s city...
Bad news, my experiment failed. No damage was done to the 7778 overall but one of the pins in the replacement plug did get melted. So, next plan. Remove damaged part. Obtain a replacement, which I have several busted up electrical, radio type components. I’ll get the fitting (already to remove)...
I use what is called WebFLIS. It contained every stock number still in use by the government. There are thousands of items listed. Here’s the link. You may need to provide some information before being allowed to use it. They’re looking for very basic stuff, name, email address, etc. Each item...
So, got the wires removed from the original plug. I used a propane torch to remove about a pound of old solder. Caution: molten solder is incredibly hot on bare skin! Got the replacement plug all cleaned up, which took about five minutes. Got my good soldering gun and soldered the wires to the...
I may be trotting on old ground here but... I have a Vic-1 system. To power it, I want the current to go through a MX-7778/GRC electrical suppressor. If possible, I want the current also go to my PRC-10 radio. The problem, as many already know, it the cable that goes from the battery to the...
