    MEP-804A Gauges

With the help from this forum and a little patience all of the gauges on this MEP-804A are now working as designed! I removed the “shipping spring/shunt from the back of the hertz gauge and it dials in just fine. The percent power gauge seems very accurate also. I ran this unit for a good hour...

    MEP-804A Gauges

Well, I went on GP this morning hoping to find pictures of other MEP-804A units with the gauge panel opened. I came across a couple of them. No shunts/springs/resistors behind any of the gauges on two different units. I'll take them off and run this unit under a load later today and check it...

    MEP-804A Gauges

Thinking about it, the shunt/spring between the two terminals would add a resistance value because it’s a coiled wire. I don’t believe it would be a dead short though. I just wish that I knew if they’re both supposed to be there. I’m only seeing it on the hertz gauge, and it was also on the back...

    MEP-804A Gauges

That’s what my MEP-803A looks like also. No shunts/springs on any of the gauges. Interesting huh?

    MEP-804A Gauges

Thanks. That’s why I posted this. It doesn’t show it in the schematics, but the hertz gauge also has one and it’s also not in the schematics.

    MEP-804A Gauges

I posted a message a few weeks ago about this MEP-804A unit. When I picked it up from the GP auction site in Chehalis Washington it had an A/C volt meter in place of the M9 percent power gauge. I’ve sourced the correct gauge (used on eBay) and installed it today. From the wiring schematic I know...

    DN4M pistons

    Sorry! That was DP Equipment!

    DN4M pistons

Now that’s being resourceful! DM Equipment had the pistons for $102 ea. I could rationalize that expense. With the gaskets, the fuel pipe from GMG and these pistons (and my auction cost with fees) I’ll have about $3500 into this unit. (Plus my time of course) I’m hopeful that it will be a solid...

    DN4M pistons

I absolutely love the simplicity of these machines! I did a rear crankshaft seal on one last year. Even pulling the engine with the power head as an assembly wasn’t too bad using an overhead Crain. And the two components come apart fairy easy.

    DN4M pistons

Well, Mayi Diesel couldn’t hook me up with the +.25mm pistons that I need. But DP Equipment in SC had them. They’re shipping them out tomorrow. I should have everything thing I need by next week to get this thing back together. It’s the most that I’ve had to do to get one of these “not running “...

I really have no other explanation either. I’m just going to focus on getting it repaired.

    DN4M pistons

#4 was the worst one. I’m confident that I can clean up the cylinders. No scrapes or gouges. Only aluminum deposits. The bearings have very little wear. Indicative of a low hour unit.

    DN4M pistons

This piston #1. 3and 4 look just like it. The upper ring is seized on 1, 3 and 4. Not yet on #2. Maybe that’s why #2 is still good?

    DN4M pistons

I was going to wait until I had the replacement pistons in hand before tearing it down any further. But after thinking about it some more I really owe it to myself to remove the pistons and mic the cylinders just to make sure I’m ok there. The crankcase was empty, so I don’t know what’s in the...

    DN4M pistons

Thank you! This confirms my findings. My current pistons are .25mm oversized. I’m also in contact with MayiDiesel in Texas. He’s checking to see if he has what I’m looking for. I’ve seen a lot of your posts here. I’m sure that you’ve seen just about every scenario on these generators. What’s...

    DN4M pistons

You are correct. It is aluminum on the cylinder walls. 3 of them. Presumably it’s from the pistons. 145 hours on the clock. My suspicion is seized piston rings, due to high carbon deposits and continued operation with no-load. With low oil and high temperature shut-downs on these machines what...

    DN4M pistons

I’ve been down a rabbit hole today while looking for some replacement pistons for this MEP-803A that I picked up last week from GP. This thing is the worst case of wet-stacking that I’ve seen yet since buying these machines. Low compression led me to remove the cylinder head. Then I found that 3...

Fuel Stop Solenoid MEP802A or boot

I've purchased a couple of different China parts for these units. My experience tells me that they're not good. It's better to stick with the OEM parts if at all possible. I found part# SA-3865 in the parts manual from the TM section on this forum. It's the same part for the MEP-802A and the...
