I was just reading this thread from yesterday and it occurred to me. My brother and his wife moved to eastern Washington a few years ago. When they had their house built, they had a solar system installed on their roof. When their solar panels are making more power than they're consuming, the...
It's been a while since I posted anything with you all. I had some open-heart surgery in December. Thankfully everything went well and I'm going to last a few more years it seems.
I just picked up a MEP-803A 10KW unit and a MEP-804A 15KW unit at auction last week. Both of these were listed as...
I'm at work now, but when I get home later tonight I'll post some pictures of me using this method of loading up my MEP-803A. Simply by lowering the metal rods (one for each leg of power) into the brine tank it loads up the generator as high as I want. The end result is warm water in the 30...
I still think the brine tank is the simplest, cheapest, most effective way to load these puppies up to max load capacity. No heating elements , no large resistors and no load banks of any kind are needed. Just plain old water with some salt and a little common sense is needed.
That's right...you did mention piston crowns in one of your other posts. Why would they fail like that I wonder? If this was a gasoline engine I would say that the timing was way off or it was running way too lean causing severe detonation or preignition which is really hard on pistons. But this...
This is very unfortunate and I feel for you. Like me I'm sure that you're already into this unit for $7000 - $10,000 with the high prices at auction now. It would be interesting to know what the cause of failure was. It sounds like it began with the turbo, but what do you think caused the turbo...
Dude! Talk about getting to know your machine wow! That's called getting very intimate with a generator, probably way more than you wanted to I bet! Thanks for sharing your experiences though. I recently acquired a MEP-805B from auction. I had a gut in Portland who wanted to buy one of my...
I work for the local transit company in Seattle. We do oil samples on the Cummins engines, Allison EV drives and BAE Alternating Current Traction Motors every 12,000 miles. I used to think that it was a waste of taxpayers money. And it is...if nobody is reviewing the results and deciphering what...
Thanks for the input. I now have (1) MEP-804B, (2) MEP-803A's and (4) MEP-802A's in my inventory. All of these came with trailers. What's interesting to me is that most people who buy these generators here in the NW only want the generator. Then there's a different group of people who are only...
My oldest brother graduated in 72. (I’m the youngest boy of 6. I have a younger sister too) He enlisted in the Air Force for a few years. My dad was born in 27. He spent some time in the Navy, but it was just after the end of WWII. I believe the military is the machine that keeps us running, and...
I never got to go into the military. Always wanted to but in 1980 when I graduated from high school they were so selective. With a slightly “tainted” record the recruiting team took a pass on me. My hat is off to anyone who has/ is serving our country! Thank you sincerely.
Yep, that’s the big variable. Hence it’s a crap shoot since nobody knows the history of them, other than they were used by the military hopefully with an active preventative maintenance schedule. Thanks for the invite bro!
Thanks for the input. I'm thinking that a properly sized unit for the work that it's doing is equally important. But again, in the wonderful world of used equipment and purchasing them from auction it is really a crap shoot. I am a gambling man and I'm having fun with these things! I can say...
I've got a question for those who are wiser than I. When looking at prospective generators to buy on Iron Planet or Government Planet I'm wondering what is a danger area as far as hours? I know this is an extremely vague question. In my experience with working around other types of equipment...
Guy is saying to hold the S1 in the start position for a few seconds (even after the engine starts) Some faults occur at start-up on these machines and by doing this one simple step it will clear many of these faults, provided there isn't another problem.
Yes sir, thank you for your input. I was referring to an over-load occurrence on the generator from using a low resistance load. Low resistance equals high current. These gen sets can be loaded up to 125% of their rated load and they will run...for a short time before faulting for over-current...
Thanks Johan. Yes, these are cast iron plates in series. I'm thinking that with some air flow across these plates they could sustain a load for a much longer time. I was using 120 volts single phase with one unit only and pulling from 60 - 80 amps. The amperage draw seemed to increase as the...
