First gear is so low, I figured it may compensate for the effective change in gearing. And I don't actually haul anything with the truck, so the power loss probably won't be a huge concern.
They are 16.00s. Bigger than I need, but for 100 each I thought I might try them.
With the 11.00s on it now, its topped out at 50, but cruises best around 45. And I rarely go more than 15-20 miles with it.
I was looking to put on some of the 395s, but haven't found any semi-local or at...
What's the consensus on the Michelin XL tires at this point?
I ran across what looks like a decent deal on a set. For a 5 ton that won't see much "real" use, would they be ok? Or are they past the point of safe use?
If you have a couple out already, run some new bolts and washers in, and tighten them down. Might clamp the plate in place enough that you can fight it without chasing it around.
The 6.2L was replaced with the 6.5L. The 6.5 came with a GM-8 turbo.
As I understand it, the turbo, intake, etc from a 6.5L will bolt onto the 6.2L. That is how I would try to do it.
It seems like I've read that, while most gasser to multi-fuel converted trucks got the overdrive, they kept the direct drive trans in the dumps on purpose.
Could also be a case of using whatever transmission was available (be it in inventory or from parted out trucks that were deadlined) to...
Just a guess, but might start by looking at the alternator/alternator belt first. If there is heavy load(like charging the batteries) applied while the truck is running, the belt might slip, squealing as it does. When you turn off the ignition and it takes the load away the alternators...
Don't know if this will help, but here's a snorkel setup on a suburban, which is about the same. Might require some adjustments for your application.

And, of course, you'll need to address all of the other systems...
I'm sure the dually would pull it. The issue is stopping it. Just like a heavy trailer without brakes, it will push the truck around.
You might see if there are any members locally with a truck and a tow bar to flat tow it.
As far as the brakes on the dump, they are an air over hydraulic...
When going from neutral to 1st or neutral to reverse on my m51 I can hear the transfer case shift the sprag in the appropriate direction. Makes a thunk when it does.
I've never done it with the air system pressurized without the engine running, but don't know why it wouldn't work.
