What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I took the M1031 SECM to town for what else? A parts run! For the daily driver..German Engineering at its finest, the brake light switch gave out on the VW. In this suburb of San Antonio, only 4 miles to the Irish proprietors parts store and under 7 dollars! Truck ran great, sensible heat by...

    Engine swap poll

Most 6.2/6.5 turbo setups build boost after 2200 RPM, when torque in naturally aspirated models begins to decline. Remember, torque is cylinder pressure which is due to volumetric efficiency and injection volume. With forced aspiration, more fuel can be injected, this makes a bit of soot at...

    Harmonic balancer and waterpump

    200 amp? Overkill for certain.

    Harmonic balancer and waterpump

Dampers are three pieces, the hub, the rim and the rubber in between which binds these two masses with a torsional spring and damper. If the ring has slipped back, the damper is gone. Rubber hardens over time. The bond to the steel then fails.

    Super Lug 9x16 tires

Too aggressive for my tastes. Would be worth it for a total offroad set..price is decent

Rear wheels hop when in snow

Loose suspension and worn shock absorbers. Stiff springs are one thing, axle mass another. This makes a spring-mass pair which will oscillate at a certain frequency. The ability of the shock absorbers to damp this oscillation is what keeps hop minimal. You may still have low frequency...

    M1028 4.56 to 3.73 ?

It takes the same horsepower to move the vehicle at a set road speed regardless of engine RPM. This engine is most efficient between 1800 and 2400 RPM. At 3600 RPM, fuel consumption is 13% greater, due to volumetric efficiency loss and greater heat loss to the pre combustion chamber cooling...

    Cucv Fuseable link help

Electrical test of the starter is necessary. The only wires capable of melting a battery terminal post are starter and NATO port. Also check communication kit wiring, if truck has it.

    Horsies and torquies

135 HP at 55 MPH and wide open throttle. Power is based on fuel delivery, at 3600 RPM, 44 cubic millimeters per stroke is 65 pounds of fuel per hour. At a BSFC of 0.45 pounds per horsepower hour, that is 155 horsepower

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Got the dash back together. I lubricated the speedometer cable and bushing, packed it full of grease then cleaned off the excess. Smooth and quiet now. Also reset the null position as the needle was far off. Checked with a traffic radar sign, at a solid indicated speed of 60, radar had me...

    Electrical help needed.

The glow plugs and starter are 24 volt, the rest is 12 volt. To make this work, the 12 volt signal from the key switch on start position triggers a relay which sends 24 volts to the small wire on the starter. This relay is under the dash, look up Doghead relay mod. Yours might be bad. The...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Installed an electric heater control valve. Couldn't find something I liked so I used a stainless ball valve with a motor actuator and a momentary contact double pole, double throw switch with two indicator lights. It takes 10 seconds to go from full open, red light on to full closed orange...

Heating System Upgrade or Auxiliary Heater?

1009? First service the heater core. Then auxiliary heater in the back. Surplus Center has some in stock.

Turboing a 6.2l build (another one)

Need a bag of round tuits. Work has been eating me alive. I bought manifolds from Hillbilly to mock up..looks like 1-1/2 Sch 5S is perfect as exhaust port spacing is 4.5 inches. This size pipe (1.9 inch OD, 0.065 wall thickness) can be formed to match existing ports, no stretch. The weld...

    Voltmeter died

This is overkill..digital voltage and current. The current is left alternator output, shunt is series with the negative wire, very safe.

    Voltmeter died

Series adds resistance so two 150 ohm in series is 300 ohms. Parallel would make 75 ohms.

    24v-12v Transformer

I have a digital ammeter combination wired in series with the left alternator negative connection, I see a maximum draw of 35 amps with high beams, heater fan and wipers on max. The big draw is after a cold start where the alternators are 90+ amperes for a few minutes due to after glow. As...

Turboing a 6.2l build (another one)

Nice. I'm going a different route. Twin turbos. Two smaller variable geometry units with a combined mass flow of 40 pounds per minute. Exhaust manifolds will be from 1-1/2 Sch 5S weld fittings with turbos mounted between the two inner cylinders. Intake will be a modified stock unit...

2020 TX MV Rally at the Brazos Valley Off-Road Ranch

12 pounds of brisket for myself alone. Lunch every day at work. We are all essential, I'm in a critical role and my department is again at 75% strength. Canceled vacation

    M1031 governor linkage

Looks to be commercial off the shelf parts. When I recover from this week's torture session, I will take photos and search for part numbers. I do know adjustments are crucial. Any time the governor is moved, it needs adjusting.
