BAE systems 2001 M1088A1 any good?

It's not really anything specific to these trucks. I have an A0, but would much rather have a newer truck. Statistically, the newer trucks are significantly more reliable than the A0's (and the A0's are still far more reliable than any other truck the military had previously). So I've wondered...

Strange CTIS issue - could use some input

Sorry, that's not how your comment read at all. It sounded like "Way to go wasting money buying a bunch of ECUs, because I could have just fixed it with my diagnostic cable!" And I couldn't figure out how that was possible.

Strange CTIS issue - could use some input

Your comment is completely unwarranted. I already had 2 used ones before starting this post, and sending them to you wasn't going to do anything to fix the overspeed warning. I knew there was nothing wrong with the truck because the original controller doesn't give the overspeed warning. I was...

Strange CTIS issue - could use some input

After trying those two used black controllers, I bought a NOS black controller and it works great. It does not have the "CTIS Overspeed" problem that the other two did.

Dipstick Rerouting or hiding access to FMTV fluids- How did you secure this access ?

You could build a small sheetmetal box that cover them.

Picture of the hole plugs on steering column?

    Interesting... they look custom.

Cracked! Something else to check on your FMTV...

And it looks like a standard depth nyloc nut?

Picture of the hole plugs on steering column?

I think I did see a post saying that the joints in the steering shaft are greaseable, but without the caps in place the steering column is basically an open pipe to the ground, and it lets in cold air (winter), dust, etc.

GovPlanet... good idea. Boy, those are ugly caps. I've never seen any like that before.

    M1078 newbie

"Air over hydraulic" is a very common industry term for hydraulics that are pumped by air pressure. You see it everywhere, from Harbor Freight air powered hydraulic jacks, to industrial machinery like hydraulic tube benders and presses. I actually had to look up what "air over hydraulic...

    Spare tire safety chain

Mine has standard snap links on the ends of the chain. Like these... https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-8-in-x-3-1-2-in-Zinc-Plated-Spring-Link-42734/205883003

    Greaseable polyurethane sway bar bushings

Typical intended installation is with the opening of the bushing (so that it can be installed over the bar) facing forward, and the grease fitting facing rearward.

    Just 24 volt

Isn't it also common to split to using two separate alternators (one for 12V, one for 24V)?

    Greaseable polyurethane sway bar bushings

Hmm, short answer is yes. You can turn the opening in the bushings to face rearward and install them that way. You would then just drill the grease hole on the front of the u-shaped bracket (there really is no front or back, it's symmetrical, so you would actually also just be pointing the hole...

Picture of the hole plugs on steering column?

I measured the holes to be 26mm (1.025-1.028" measured with dial calipers). That size puts it out of range for many sheet metal plugs. I'd still like to see what the real plugs look like, so I could try to find the correct ones. Otherwise I'll resort to just sticking "anything that fits" in...

Cracked! Something else to check on your FMTV...

Yeah, I know "you" didn't break it. I check mine every time I'm wreching on the engine, just to make sure it hasn't moved. You can use Loctite Red, if you degrease the threads on both parts well. Some people have recommended the nyloc nut, but I would want to see if the thread engagement of...

    Greaseable polyurethane sway bar bushings

Yep! Just PM me. More info about them here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?168338-MTV-Sway-Bar-Bushings-Greaseable-Polyurethane

    Just 24 volt

Are you just starting your post with such lofty claims because you don't want it to turn into a thread explaining why you shouldn't do it? I don't think there are any credible stories of anyone having done this yet. We get posts on here periodically, typically from a new member that doesn't...

Picture of the hole plugs on steering column?

Does anyone have a picture of the hole plugs that go in the sides of the steering column? I want to try to find a suitable replacement. Thanks!

Cracked! Something else to check on your FMTV...

Loose air compressor brackets cracking this front housing is a known issue, reported in several posts. It's in my troubleshooting guide here in my signature. I really hate seeing people break the same "known" things over and over... that's why I have been compiling it. If you haven't read it...
