    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

A baseline 6X is plenty for my needs. The programmer is included, the only option is the torque converter..with only a fuel pump turned up a 1/4 turn and water injection, it should last for hundreds of thousands of miles. The only non-4L80 parts are the modified ratios.

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

My mind is set, I will scrimp, save and even sell myself to do this upgrade to my 1031. Yes, it is a 4L80 swap, externally but using TCI's highly modified 6X Six Speed. Yes, SIX speeds. How do they do that? Custom valve body which uses the overdrive to split the first 3 speeds. They also...

    Crankshaft Pulley

I was talking about the pulley. HBs are available commercially.

    Crankshaft Pulley

See if these folks can rebuild it: https://damperdoctor.com/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=4 This is just a secondary damper to protect the accessories driven off the serpentine belt. Excessive torsional acceleration causes serpentine belt tension to oscillate which...

    M1031 Weight

That is for the M-880 which was the Dodge with Dana 44 front axle, Wisconsin engine powered Hobart 200 amp welder-generator, single phase compressor and 318 gas V8. The M1031 SECM body was made by Able Body Company with a 9000 pound GVW. Shipping weight? 22 metric tons. Why? Because that...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Finally added an air intake hose. Much quieter. So I ordered the proper hose..used a section of RV sewer hose :grd:. Seriously, it was a freebie from the dealer which was too short and much too thin. Not only is the truck much quieter, the exhaust gas temperature is roughly 100 F lower over...

    M1031 Weight

Sounds about right. Mine is 8400 pounds but I have tools in every bin. Plus oxy acetylene, argon and the GTAW/SMAW welder. PTO generator with Champion air compressor stock. The cab and chassis weight is 5200 pounds.

    Rear Axle Seal

There is almost always a little alignment issue with the bolts if the wheel is on the ground. Jack up the wheel and they should align perfectly. Silicone works fine. Seals are another issue..almost every one I ever worked on, in uniform or as a civy, has had gear oil migration to the...

    M1031 conversion to M1028

Oh, I would like to buy a 120 volt, 15 amp circuit breaker too. Start the bidding over in classifieds?

    M1009 Repainting Tips

If you go the Behr route, you can rent an airless sprayer. Or buy a $100 Wagner airless. Water cleanup, no noxious fumes.

    Gen 1 & 2 dash lights

I've added a combination digital volt/ammeter to the driver side alternator ground line, measuring voltage off the high side alternator. I have almost complete information on the charging system. There are voltage regulators which will "turn on" by sensing the AC off the stator, meaning the...

    M1031 conversion to M1028

If the compressor did not weigh 80 pounds, I would jump on that too. I have 208 3θ power.

How to have several hours of fun with starter bolts

True, the reason the bolts fail is fatigue. Not from excessive force. Grade 8 have higher yield stress yet lower cyclic fatigue strength than grade 5. This is why removal success rates are quite high as the threads are not stretched. And usually coated with oil.

    M1031 conversion to M1028

Just take it off and shake it.

Dibs on the air tank? Well, if is not full of rust.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Old habits die hard. Used to design subsystems for offshore/marine work. So I worked with marine engineering/shipyards and learned their lingo. Don't miss seasickness one bit. Still use port, starboard, fore, aft, head, galley...to the point some think I am a Squid :derailed:

M35A2 military conversion to diesel only?

The FDC decreases fuel based on increasing viscosity as energy content per volume increases with viscosity. A gallon of gasoline has fewer BTU than diesel. The AMBAC injection pump is a volume injection device, diesel has more energy per injection stroke than gasoline. You can still run...
