Back in my old hot rod days I remember reading about after market flex fans and how much horsepower you could 'recover' by replacing the old solid fan and even the newer (at that time) clutch fans. Seemed that it said as much 25HP! Of course that was on a 383CI gasser. If I pulled a camper with...
After checking all the mounts (mentioned above) I'd check the IP timing, You mentioned smoke and rough idle and the lunging, your timing may be to far advanced.
Changing bodies/frames isn't bad, I've done it lots of times years ago. (key words YEARS AGO!)
I'd do it now for the right rust free truck, but I'm sure it'd take me quite a while. I've noticed that I work smarter now but parts seem to be heavier.
Some folks on here just don't seem to understand the 'no money' concept! If you have to use starting fluid then use it, just make sure the GLOW PLUGS ARE DISCONNECTED AND ARE COOL!!!! Starting fluid isn't good for the engine but the REAL damage comes from it igniting on contact with a hot glow...
It would be a LOT easier to install a battery isolator from one of the existing alternators and then run the #2 charge post back to your separate battery bank. I bet you can find a good deal on one on fleabay, easy to mount and only 3 wires to hook up. One wire directly from the alt. then a wire...
You'll find that the rear spring perches are located in slightly different location. Years ago I did something like this, I picked up a real nice 'short bed' pick up at auction. It was a stolen and recovered but it was actually a modified Blazer frame with a PU cab and a shortened bed on it...
NO!!! Do not leave the gasket on the truck and work the glass in, you will break it almost all the time.
While the seal is in place clean the glass groove out real well, any broken pieces of glass will cause the new glass to break also dirt in there will make it harder to install. Then put the...
They not only suck but REALLY SUCK! In a pinch they work and your truck will start right up today and maybe next week too but not next winter! They seem to have a life of 366 days and a warranty of 365 days.
$85 for a new card from antennaclimber??? Why mess around with push buttons? 85 bucks delivered to your door, thats cheap! I should've checked around here when I needed one instead I got fleeced on flebay.
I've got a homemade front bumper on one of my trucks. It's pretty simple, just 2"x10" rectangular steel tube cut to length with a 4"x4" flat plate reinforcement welded around the shackle holes and some old expanded mesh (2"wide) tacked on top to stand on. I made it years about 12yrs ago so I...
When I use RTV I bolt up the parts and leave them loose overnight, then the next day tighten them up. I'd remove the tube completely and check for a crack, if good I'd clean the mating surface's and try again. Have the heads been off the engine? Reason I ask is if a machine shop decked them to...
I'm a day late! I found that little tube interesting and left it alone when installing that engine in front of an auto, then shortly later I needed to make one for the engine I put in front of a manual. Just figures
I don't have any info on the clutch, but that crossmember should be easy it's the same for gas or diesel and pick up or blazer. The only difference I've seen is 2wheel vs. 4 wheel drive and I think (key word there) some have a single 'hump' for single exhaust and some have a double 'hump' for duel.
I did away with the TH400 in both of my trucks so I don't have anything to go by but my memory so here goes.
If I remember correctly on the tranny there is a vacuum modulator and if you pull the hose off of it and look in the tiny hole you should see the head of a very small allen screw...
Nice truck, I look forward to seeing pic's when done.
I'm not 100% positive but I believe i remember some kind of warning not to use balancing beads AND Centramatics together, could've just been a sales ploy or bad juju I don't know.
With the engine off and cool remove the upper hose from the radiator stand off to the side and have a helper start the truck for just a second or two. Coolant should come out the hose, if it bubbles up and out of the radiator instead you have the wrong pump. Keep in mind the thermostat will...
I'm not really sure what your problem is but one time ( yeah only once!) ran into something like this and I made my own adjustable rod that fit into the slave cyl. and the throw out fork. I used a threaded rod coupler and made two ends for it add a couple jam nuts and your all set! IIRC I made...
20 miles round trip 5 days a week and on most weekend I run down to the camp and thats 100 each way. Hardly ever have a problem with it or any of the 6.2 powered trucks I've had in the past.
Come to think of it the only on the road problems I've had was torque converter bolts loosened up on a...
I have the same thing (I think) I picked it up from a tranny shop that closed and the customer never came back for it! Some one in the past converted the shifter to an electric motor with limit switches so after a shift it auto shuts the motor off.
Some day soon (I hope) to actually drive it...
