You understood it correctly. Using a multi battery charger with leads to each battery is a better charging method than using a single 24V charger, especially if your truck is still using a 60 amp generator.
24V is easier if it isn't a permanent installation.

The civilian H1 uses the same engine/transmission in some of the models sold, and there are some of them out there well over 100k miles.

the straight doors are for trucks with a certain armor/cab on them. They don't fit properly without that design. I believe it's the M1113/M1114 that they go to.

As for getting the old ones out of the frame, the most efficient way is to remove the windshield assembly from the truck, drill all the rivnuts out, and then turn it upside down and shake it back and forth with the plugs behind the wiper pivots removed for them to fall out of.
