Quick question for the group: how much should I be paying for hydraulic lines for the front loader? A source claiming to have NOS wants $100 - 150 each, depending on which one. Is this in the ballpark of what others have paid? I need 3-4, so the cost is adding up quickly.
I had a very good experience using simp5782. He has a good working relationship with the folks running the yards down there, and has hauled quite a few FLUs. He is out of TN and is pretty quick to reply if you message him.
The magnet sticks, so it's not stainless. But it's definitely not painted either, so it must have been replaced previously.
Despite its present problems, my SEE was obviously maintained. Some of the hydraulic hoses are nearly new, and 4 new hydraulic pistons. New fuel tank (zero rust...
Yup, thanks. I've got that line for the tires. I have thought of buying a cheap air tank, filling it at the gas station and using that for diagnosis and filling duties. She sits on a building site with no power as of yet, so getting a compressor out there would not help.
Thanks for the...
Small Victories
This.
That's the first sign of life by the air pressure gauge. When I pressed the brake pedal, it had a noticeably firmer feel (maybe just my imagination) and the orange needle briefly moved up to join the white. Up to now it's just been the red light mocking me every time I...
The European websites may be your best bet for that seat. Prices aren't too bad right now, with the strong dollar. I've recently found a few things over there which were either unobtainable or just super expensive from US sources. A lot more unimogs get parted out over there.
Hmmm. Now I'm curious. Does the parts SEE have a rebuild plate? How about the other two FLUs? The kind of difference you describe is pretty unusual for a military vehicle with a low production run coming off (I assume) a single assembly line.
Don't take the TMs as gospel when it comes to the preparations necessary to do a certain task. I can recall many instances where a -20 did not mention all pre-work which had to be done before replacing a certain part. Granted, I had a motor pool full of tracked vehicles, not SEEs, but the...
Yup, that cylinder is light yellow to orange. I'm wondering if they just got it locally from a heavy equipment place.
This thread is fantastic, without a doubt. The information found here just isn't published anywhere else. Between reading the entire thread, the entire Operator's Manual...
Thanks for taking a stab peakbagger!
Yeah, I've watched vtwin4christ's regulator clean-out video a couple of times. I expect to find some pretty ugly rust in there, and a rotted-out cross line. The electricals were going to be my first priority, with the air system next, but since the wiring...
With wind chill it is supposed to get to -13 tonight. Maybe I should roll the windows down, just to make sure the critters meet their maker. Cheaper and healthier than using chemicals, that's for sure.
All good ideas, thanks. It looks like the dipper cylinder has already been replaced, since it's a different color. What would you recommend cleaning the rods with? Something like WD-40? I've used hydraulics before, but never had to maintain them.
EDIT: That's the bucket cylinder that's been...
Well, our SEE arrived this morning. After hooking up a new set of batteries and giving her a shot of ether, simp5782 was able to start her up despite the single digits. Judging by the paperwork found behind the seat and a couple of markings, I think she came to her new home from the 642nd...
BigBison did you NOT read the above: "Both parties need to deal with their issues through the legal system, not the forum."???
Patracy is one of the site admins. I wouldn't be surprised if you got banned for a while after he JUST asked you to knock it off. If you must keep replying to...
At the heart of it all, it's a German tractor. All the extra stuff DOD slapped on it made it a chimera, and doubled the complexity of an already complicated machine. It is what it is.
I hear ya Ahab. I bought mine for the functionality (theoretical functionality, until I get it working anyway). Too bad stepping away from the mainstream in just about any way in life costs more. Not in all ways, certainly, but in most.
