So was it registered to the buyer or seller? I am wondering why you did not get a return on the plate. In CA after you sell a vehicle you can send in the portion of the title that releases the seller from liability, I wonder if DMV suspends the registration at that point.
I do not get upset...
What to look out for when buying?
Check the hat channels that support the floor. From the factory they had a wood spacer to prevent crushing. The wood can and will absorb water and cause rusting.
Look for cracks in the frame near the spring hangers and front frame horns.
Check all the fluids...
Will's method of putting it under the bed is neat and it does not occupy and bed space. The problem with putting it in the bed is you are either moving it all the time or it will be under the cargo when you need it.

You have two issues with mounting the crane to the bed.
The first issue is the bed us not designed to handle the concentrated twisting load that the crane will apply to the bed. This can be remedied by doubling the frame and bed and connecting them together. The problem with this is that the...
The crane needs to be mounted to the frame. There are several ways to do this. Most are mounted to the frame either ahead of or behind the bed. Another option is to remove a section of the bed and mount the crane to the a frame. Mounting to the bed only works for very small cranes.
