Sorry I have to ask do you have the battery cable that runs to the starter with the correct end on it at the starter that clocks the cable in the right position. You Know. I have them also. heat shield, Have. Support bracket , Have.
I have one on the shelf in my barn. Save some coin and stop up and I am flexible. It is the direct drive model. But I also have many new 28MT and alternators. More then I need anymore.
The OEM CUCV wiper switch is a multi function switch mounted on the turn signal switch. It was GM's first year for the smart stalk switch in the GM truck line. So it is column mounted on a stock CUCV of all variants. I hope that helps.
Not mine but seen it and wanted to share. Taking the body off of a rusty CUCV is the only way to properly do the repairs. I don't think I would attach the new 1/4 panel while the body is unattached from the main frame. But I did this hanging up of M1009 tubs a few times with out the rotisserie...
Fun times. You are doing great work. That makes you a great student and an excellent mechanic. I am here to help anytime. I don't know everything and many things I leave up to someone that does. I don't want any half fast work and guessing going on. I will save money on groceries but vehicles...

1984 was the first year for the smart stalk controls in the Chevrolet / GM trucks line. The 1983 still had the dimmer switch on the floor and the wiper switch on the dash. So if you are not concerned about originality just buy the 1983 wiper switch and wire it in. The washer works from the 1983...
I was just trying to help. Remain calm. Yes you can do a 2 position switch. But before you go thru all that make sure it has a great sufficient ground and the plug on the motor is fitting tight. After many years of hard use the plug can loose it grip on the connections. Check it out and report...
Good old Facebook had to rub salt into the wounds. It reminded me that it has been a year since I pulled the current project into the garage. It didn't remind me of the 25 years in set over 8 ft behind the wall where it is currently setting. I found an important piece of history to sooth my...
The grinder and cut off wheel are your friend. But you already have the replacement. Have at it. Unbolt the retainers that secure the cable. Don't cut them. I see that a lot. Good Luck.
OK. I know this was covered a thousand and 1 times. You need to order parts for a 1984 K5 or K30. Not a 1985, 1986, or 1987. !984 will get you the right parts every time. 1985,86,87 models had the washer motor in the tank. That was a good setup. It can be done if you have a salvage yard nearby...
It's just the welding near the truck that scares me. It may be scrap but the welds will scar the windows and then the wipers will tear. And I am not about to stand on my head and get the inside out bolt from the top A pillar hinge. But yes welding works great. This weed whacker string will...
only my '85 has some chunks broken out...
That's called patina. Survivor scars. Hey any way I have a few parts grilles and you can easily replace just that part of the grille. When you work with old hard to find things you have to get creative. I have cut and spliced many CUCV grilles...
i also worked on the replacement horn contact. Some genius had stretched the spring out to make up for the lost spring contact lock. the contact that comes with the new kit is wrong so I reused the OEM one. I reinstalled the steering wheel and made sure it was clocked correctly. Aligning the...
Next I removed the old 2 wire CUCV neutral safety switch from the lower column inside the truck under the dash. I have an extra column to show you where it is and how to install and adjust, It is easy and requires a small screw driver to snap it in place and pry the old one gently out of place...
I have been very busy lately at home and at work. I have an M1009 torn apart at work for several parts to be replaced. I did manage to get the door pin bushings in the hinges today, the neutral safety switch to repair the B/U lamps and the horn spring contact. OK so the door pin bushings were in...
I always go here but anyway here I go again. What do you know about the injection pump and lift pump? The injection pump may need overhauled. That is a cure all for fuel relate issues. If you didn't replace it and don't know when it was replaced it may me time to think about in and get that in...
I had a contact maintenance M1031 I ran a few years. I removed the PTO driven generator and added a Yamaha Diesel generator. I kept burning motors up on saws and the generator add fuel like it was going out of style. The man at the generator shop said it had a dirty sine wave. The term dirty...
