    M1031 to RV tug..

Wheels are going to work, I went with 8" wide 16" steel reproductions with 4" offset, they are going to be flush with the fenders for a mean look. I have too much to do, not enough time to do it. These are musts: 1. New tires 2. New batteries 3. Air Ride suspension 4. Class V hitch 5...

Shocked by CUCV battery hold down bracket

Thin skin in the area you were shocked? 12 volts is enough, 24 will definitely get your attention. Fingers and palms have very thick skin, your soft underbelly ;) and especially your tongue will notice 12 volts.

Modified Air Cleaner Design, Would It Help?

Nice, cyclonic precleaner. Useful if you travel dusty roads.

    M1009 - Fuel delivery problem?

The sock is needed when the tank is less than 1/4 full as it prevents drawing air into the lines. And keeps slime out. Socks can be easily cleaned with Diesel Mechanic in a Bottle. Berryman B12 carb cleaner also works. As far as the problem with this vehicle, it sounds like one of the...

2 Questions: Block Heaters, and 12V/24V Jump Starting

Batteries fail far sooner than alternators. My general rule of thumb is replace batteries every 4 years and you won't be stranded. Alternators last 100k miles, your mileage may vary. This is why jump starting is still important.

$1.58 tubing finally fixed my doors. No more slamming.

PEX is tube, PVC is pipe. 1/2" pipe has an ID of 1/2", give or take. Tube is based on OD. PEX is a much tougher polymer and has good lubricity. PVC pipe has calcium carbonate powder in it, causing more friction.

2 Questions: Block Heaters, and 12V/24V Jump Starting

I jump charged a M35 Deuce with my 12 volt car. It can be done but only with discharged batteries. If the batteries are defective, you won't do it. Now if you have two vehicles and two jumper cables, you can hook each battery to each vehicle, just make sure all three vehicles are not...

    M1031 to RV tug..

16x8 wheels came in. Going with 255 85 16 tires in a 123Q construction (3400 pound load at 80 PSI). Also received the Paradox coolant bypass. My weekend starts on Sunday.

Modified Air Cleaner Design, Would It Help?

60 mph is a static pressure of 1.75 inches water column which is 0.036 PSI. That is about equal to 200 feet above sea level . You get more pressure change from temperature change of 20°. Remember, only two intake valves are open at any given time and this is a low speed engine.

Modified Air Cleaner Design, Would It Help?

There isn't any measurable restriction through the stock snorkel. At 3600 RPM, the air flow is less than 500 CFM making for a velocity through the snorkel of under 30 MPH. Compressibility isn't a factor at that speed. Drawing 120°F air from under the hood is more of a performance loss than...

Working on the FV1801A or Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4×4, CT, Austin Mk.1 AKA Austin Champ

Its ALIVE!! After two days of carb fiddling, I can say I know how this Solex carb works. All circuits clean and passed vacuum tests but it was still running rich and improper so I hooked a vacuum gauge to the manifold, 14.5 inches of mercury is sick. I bumped timing to max with only a minor...

    Fuel Filter Glow Plug

A glow plug is not the correct heater for fuel. Far too hot. The heater in the stock CUCV filter works fine. Mine doesn't leak and if it did, I know how to fix it. IMHO, fuel filter mods are the greatest cost for the least benefit.

So I can use the CO2 tank as a backup air source ?

Carbon dioxide dissolves in oil. It also makes any water in the system acidic. I would recommend against ever using it for a backup to air. Far better to have a 24 volt backup air system.

6.5 TD Throttle Position Sensor voltage ?

The sensor gets a 5 volt signal from the TCM and sends a 0.5 to 5 volt signal to the TCM depending on throttle position. It should be at least 4.5 volts at wide open.

    M1031 to RV tug..

Not interested in a center or side mount. Plus the old school single turbos and huge monsters. I am thinking after getting the 4L80 in and sliding the engine forward 1.75", I should have enough room in the backs of the cylinder heads for two small VNT-17s with trim for a 2.5-3 liter direct...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Got the parts for the 1031. Class V hitch, Air Lift for the rear suspension, overhauled injection pump and cooling upgrade/bypass kit..making the 1031 a RV tug. Already have weight distributing stinger, brake controller and trailer wiring kit.

    CUCV Cooling System Upgrade Kit

Incoming order! Should be easy to install during an injector pump swap. This is on a 1031 SECM so there might be an issue around the governor.

    Manual hydraulic pump rebuild

Look for corrosion on the piston. The chrome plating is thin and soft. And it traps corrosive rain water, salt and trash.

Mismatched gear ratios in differentials M998

It is the product, not sum. Multiply 2.73 by 2 for a overall gear ratio of 5.46:1 .
