The install was easier than expected. Only snag is the new mounts at transmission end need different shim counts as the double Cardan joint has a bit of bind.
Cleaning the plunger and bore with B12 Chemtool, then lapping the piston with clean diesel and holding the plunger in an electric drill has worked for me. I noted milky yellow diesel after 30 seconds of lapping.
Never use any abrasive.
Ah, so I was right. It is an MWO that removed the main buss connections from the Cannon plug. We are leaving the pins in place on the new engine as this Goat will never swim again. The socket on the Goat side of the connection was filled with white RTV, I pulled those out with a screw to give...
All straight weight OE-HD30, not a hint of Vermouth ;(
On a serious note, the air box drain also handles piston oil drain back. When a 2 stroke diesel stops, a piston can be far above the intake port. Any oil on the side of the intake window can drain back into the air box. This is why the...
Oh, yeah. It runs. Started on second pull, needed fuel priming. Then it ran but sluggish throttle. After a few seconds, throttle response was normal. Then we ran it to thermostat opened and released the clog of rust. Then we ran it some more to make sure it wasn't leaking. I did my...
Mud dabbler wasps are a problem for my generators. When exercising the generator, the nests get pulverized in the cooling fan, spraying dirt everywhere. I now do weekly run ups with monthly load tests during wasp season. The wasps are so bad they plug the vent stacks on the house plumbing...
After 12000 miles, I finally changed the fuel filter. Instead of cranking the engine, I put the mitt vac pump to the bleeding port and pulled until I had fuel. Started right up.
The old filter was full of sediment. Probably from the 4 gallons of waste motor oil I used over those miles to...
An M37 radiator has the hose fittings in the wrong places and angles. But it will work as the engine will not see a load. A heater core would work. But not going up US 281 @ 55 MPH ;)
Steel fasteners in aluminum can corrode TIGHT. Using TIG to add an additional 1/2" of length to that broken bolt also heated it enough to break the corrosion bond. Basically, I made a weld stalagtite on the broken stub with ER70 S2 filler wire..a 70,000 psi tensile strength steel. Then my...
On the adjustment, you want to get 2-4 hunting cycles when a major load is removed. For example, on my 002A, I load it with a 4500 watt water heater element that is in a bucket of water. The set is running at 60.5 Hz with breaker closed, when the breaker is opened, it jumps to 63 Hz, then...
You have to show the link between Detroit and the petroleum industry. Reality is all auto manufacturers selling in the U.S. and Europe are mandated to minimum economy standards.
Technology is is advancing in leaps and bounds, today's direct injected turbo gas engines are as thermodynamically...
You found me ;)
Yes, in my system using both disconnect switch and relay, the disconnect is the same as pictured (low quality) and the relay a very high quality Trombetta of domestic origin.
Higher voltage will arc contacts if you try to break it under load. I am also using a relay rated for 400 amps at 12 volts AND breaking under the same load which failed the switch. No issues yet. This is for the 28 volt, 80 amp cabin air conditioning system in my 1028. The relay controls the...
Had one fail at less than 100 amp and 28 volt. Voltage doesn't matter if you don't make or break under full load. Current is Current when made. THere are better switches.
It was just low charge. The MEP 002A uses a permanent magnet alternator like a motorcycle. It has limited charge current and I guess batteries were not getting fully charged. Slow charging overnight and waiting a week, batteries are 12.92 volts each
Yeah, he left this morning at 0500 for Houston. Hopefully he learned to get around OTR truckers quickly, a trailer tire blew out as he was passing this morning. Ears ringing.
