    M1031 to RV tug..

Hitch? Draw Tite 41938 arrives today. This is a class V, go big or go home. I'm looking at a trailer brake actuating sway control unit which goes between the 7 way electrical and trailer. I need to get the hitch tongue weight distributing brackets and the correct round bar springs. It will...

My M1031 Contact Maintenance Truck project

I have the tank racks in my 1031. I'll get dimensions and pictures soon. I need them for my argon, acetylene and oxygen. Probably going to put the argon above the generator. I've already put the compressor above the generator to free up floor space. Made a rack from 1" square tube..that is...

    Starter ran off on me

The sticky relay under the dash is only there because of the 24 volt starter, the contactor on the starter can also stick. My starter run on problem was in the starter itself, mostly because of the missing retainer.

    DOT vrs Standard Nylon hose

Nylon is a polyamide, the different layers are for UV and moisture resistance. Nylon is quite sensitive to both. The non-DOT tube you are showing is polyethylene which has very low temperature resistance but is quite good on moisture.

    CUCV Cooling System Upgrade Kit

Interesting..still want to go 4L80, move the engine forward 1.75" to keep transfer case fixed (M1031 SECM with functioning PTO generator) and also use the extra space for two VNT17 turbochargers with Arduino controlled vanes for zero lag boost. Just 8 PSI boost, those turbines would spool up in...

    M1031 to RV tug..

I'll look you up if work sends me there. Nothing sure now but the road and needs of work.

    M1031 to RV tug..

Roger on the intake side. When the manifold is off for the injection pump, I am going to port match the manifold to heads and gasket trim. Already have the carbide burr set to adjust the manifold. This is also for water injection reasons.

    M1031 to RV tug..

Side mount turbo manifold studs are different? Like I was saying, 22k original miles. No way to get a fresher engine. I have a killer TIG welder, know thin carbon, stainless and aluminum welding. I have a tube bender. Why not do a custom one-off low pressure twin turbo? I'm thinking KO3s...

    M1031 to RV tug..

The turbo is a plus BUT it requires battery, intake and exhaust modifications. The PTO governor system must stay, the generator is reconnectable to 100 amps of 120 volt single phase which is perfect for my RV plus two more. If I move the engine forward 1.75" to fit a 4L80 transmission, it...

    M1031 to RV tug..

My life has changed quite a bit in the past 2 years, first I am flying solo again, second my job has me on the road for what they call short term assignments. Which is why I want to ditch the apartment life and tug my home behind my 1031. My sights are set on a mid 20 foot bumper tow, I have...

My M1031 Contact Maintenance Truck project

Voltage sag should not cause issue with frequency (RPM). Reduce the over speed threshold if the frequency does not exceed 65 Hz, the over speed should only protect for frequency over 70 Hz, that is the limit of the rotor. (3000 RPM). Even then, you have a good tolerance. These are tough...

    6.2 headers

Diesels cannot have valve overlap, the pistons would hit the valves at TDC. High compression ratio. ..so the value of headers is minimum to start. Headers work to reduce back pressure at higher engine speed dynamically. This increases volumetric efficiency at higher speed. Speeds which are...

Cleaning out a fuel tank, any ideas.

Pull the tank and clean it. The dirt must come out, Biodiesel will not clean it without causing more damage. Acetone will get the wax white junk but the rust remains. 4000 psi water will knock most off but you need to remove the rivets and desolder the cap boss. Once down to bare metal...

    How to keep her cool?

I am going to the rear cylinder bypass kit as my solution to the heat issue. Then the 4L80e. Higher drag CUCVs like the 1010 and 1031 SECM dump a lot of heat into the transmission fluid through TC slip. Plus dropping the cruise engine speed to 2600 RPM will definitely help.

    How to keep her cool?

Rear cylinder coolant bypass will help. The rear pistons are undersized due to heat buildup, the $250 kit someone here sells works. More coolant flow doesn't help so leave the thermostat in, otherwise the flow becomes turbulent which worsens the issue. The source of the heat is the pre...

    6.2 Revving and Missing

The governor drive ring damps rotational oscillations just like the torsional damper on the crankshaft. This keeps the governor from hunting. This damping device "evens out" the rotational speed. When it fails, the governor cage can move about 20° of cam travel (40°of crank rotation) which is...

    6.2 Revving and Missing

No special tools needed. No locking the engine either. The pump hub has an alignment pin, fine tuning usually isn't needed. The metal shavings could be from the worn out urethane flex ring causing the governor drive pins to wear on the cage.

MEP 003A Governor not following load

The governor is nearly bulletproof. But they can be adjusted and when out of spec, they will droop or reduce frequency when loaded. This is adjusted via the notched wheel which positions the spring on the governor arm. I adjust these to where there is a tiny bit of hunting after shedding a...

tossing around a different idea for 12 volts, this been tried before?

Battery plus a 24 to 12 volt converter..select a converter with a voltage output of 14.2 and it will be perfect. Powerstream makes converters with adjustable output.

    MEP-002A Voltage Issue

Sounds like the voltage regulator board variable resistors. One controls droop, the other range.
