    M1009 Tire fitment

My personal opinion after many years of wheeling, with a general purpose rig I would not chase tire size. If you need extra traction, a set of chains works best for the rare time you need it. The smaller tire works best for economy, mileage, and wear/tear on driveline. Since you are on an M1009...

    Fried starter x2

Nonsense! You can tune a piano but you can't tune a fish... Unless you installed two faulty starters I would do some serious voltage drop tests to see if a supply or ground cable is at fault. Anything over .1, maybe .2 volts max is suspect.

    CUCV with NP205 transfer cases

The TH400 with a low horse engine also is sluggish, just going to a manual regardless of gearing will make it feel more responsive.

    M1009 needing a new engine?

I would be pressure testing the cooling system (and reading the gauge while it's running) to verify HG integrity along with putting a bore scope down the bad cylinder. I would assume you would see something abnormal in the cylinder wall or piston top compared to the rest of the cylinders. Either...

    HMMWV Run-flats Installation Tips Needed...

Cool pic...I hope it did it's job and got someone home safe! Probably a waste of time if you are not in combat. Beadlock rims are hard enough to deal with, don't give yourself another reason to fight a tire change ;)

    DIY Cab Corner Repair

Wait you MADE bed bolts? You rock! It is such a shame when you spend quality time making parts no one sees or even could care about.

    stickies

In my opinion, the stickies need to be grouped into a single sticky link at the top of the page. My browser is almost all stickies on the first page of the ol' Cuck Vee forum. This is catering to the stupids who can't read good and other stuff. Reminds me of a modern riding lawn mower which...

    Diesel additives

I've had my Cuck for three years and have never been pulled over. Unless I was seen filling up at an off-road pump, I highly doubt a LEO would dip my tank. So if you were running on road fuel with a red additive you should respectfully show your receipts for fuel and tell him about the...

    new to forum. quick question.

The difference is stall speed which has to do with the pitch on the turbine and impeller fins inside. It also depends on the engine size/power as the same converter will stall at a higher speed from a small block to big block V8. The gas version is typically a tick higher in stall speed. It will...

    Diesel additives

I use DieselKleen primarily for IP lubricity and that my truck sits extended period of time so I want corrosion and fungus prevention. I would be interested in two stroke oil for those long hauls where I burn a few tanks one after another, anyone using it?

M1031 - the first 10,000 miles observations, questions and lessons

I noticed on mine that I had some adjusting to do with the idle as my GEN lights would not go out at initial start and flickered at idle. This and the steering was very difficult when at a stop with my foot on the brake. I agree, a small bump in the idle speed helps everything.

Be sure to drink lots of coffee before doing any electrical diag ;)

    Alternator?

When I registered due to age, I did not need a title. Most states will not with the age, only a bill of sale. I actually (best policy in most situations) kept my mouth shut when first registering and played stupid...which is not difficult. I had an SR97 doc from the US Gov't that is required for...

    Alternator?

Perfect time to learn how to rebuild an alternator ;) Don't be afraid, they are very simple inside. Follow the TM's and take a few pictures during disassembly, you'll be golden! Not to mention piece of mind knowing your GENs are new again. Also be sure to replace the GEN dash bulbs, clean the...

Long Distance Retrieval: The Hard Way

Read the stickies, everything you could possibly want to know about potential problems will be there. $400 to have a truck moved one thousand miles is cheap money, you'd be borderline special to not take him up on that. You have a chance of getting home unscathed without issue. Youtube videos...

Long Distance Retrieval: The Hard Way

This is cute... Congratulations on your success, do you want a cookie? No matter how smart you are, your recovery can range from awesome to fail. My truck shipped from GA to ME was $1300...boo hoo. How bad do you want it? If you are tight over $800, then find a buddy with a 1 ton and tow bar or...

Long Distance Retrieval: The Hard Way

Rent a one way truck and trailer. No water what you prepare for, you will run into something good or bad. Getting familia with the CUCV systems is best left at home and not on the side of the road needing to get home on a timeframe. Do you feel like dropping the tank to replace the flex lines...

    M1031 Governor control discussion

Every switch on mine was misadjusted which at the beginning was a big time consumer trying to troubleshoot the entire system. Any new M1031 user should FIRST adjust and ohm out the switches before doing anything else in the governor system. My second point to this post is...TWO FUSES??? I...

New M1010 CUCV, power steering Q's...

Aside from the pulling being an issue, a full locker will more than likely just stay engaged and cause no harm. Although a cheapo pocket locker may get angry and try to ratchet. Any type of LSD whether cone, gear, or clutch will try to spin internally. Depending on how much drag occurs, it may...

New M1010 CUCV, power steering Q's...

How do you figure no damage will occur? All the diff manufacturers that make LSD's specify not to install in a front axle with a disconnect. That is the same situation that would occur if a single hub was sticking. Say what you will but damage may occur not to mention a decent steering pull.
