Doesn't hold because it is shot. Mine lacks in performance and smoke testing revealed a leak. It is probably 30 years old, just replace it. I should get one but my rig is hibernating in storage till all the road salt goes away.
I understand that but not everyone has the special tool. I will throw this out there and will upset the diehards because it isn't by the TM and following proper diag protocol but I think we are trying to overcomplicate a rather simple beast.
I'm also assuming most people have a stock...
Someone can correct me on this but I don't think the VRV is an airtight regulating assembly, I don't think it "holds" vacuum so you can't test it with a pump. All you can really do is see what reading you have after the valve with the engine running. If vacuum drops off the transmission thinks...
One day when it warms up (like July), I'm going to take the wire going from the GP solenoid from the card and woe it inline with a switch. I can buy a three position toggle with an ON - OFF - Momentary ON setup. That way you can run the GP as normal, manual override as a momentary contact so you...
Nope, decided I wouldn't get enough to make it worth my while so I fixed the controller issues and got it working. Rewired for 120/240v operation and swapped that 208v 3 phase plug for a NEMA 14-30 house generator plug.
I still need to buy a single phase compressor motor to round out the package.
Probably not such a big deal if you are not skipping regular filter changes. Another way would be a remote spin in filter to extend the life of the cotton pan filter. 5k mileage intervals for fluid is pretty aggressive even for my standards unless you are running it hard, then you are spot on as...
I believe the majority of those call for a threadlocker as a small fastener with such a big job cannot be tightened very much. Heat is your friend to break the threadlocker.
Some yoyo probably over tightened it at one point or didn't check first in the manual to see if it was reverse thread...
Sweet ride! Look forward to the build...what are the plans?
Hopefully step 1 is get rid of that fugly passenger side mirror, holy eye sore batman.
Truck overall seems pretty solid. Dashpad even looks pretty good.
That is a nice tach, perfect size and rpm scale. I used to install those on Rovers because they use the alternator feed.
Thank you for that info, I will order that and a matching set of oil and temp gauges...hello winter project!
I have no tach and have not corrected my speedo gear, running 4.56 with 37's. I will not go above 55mph indicated as regardless this is max speed the truck was intended to be in my configuration. Like everyone else, my actual GPS confirmed speed is more like 65mph due to the oversized rubber. I...
Agree 100%
Yes they sucked back in 1984, now they are one of the best non-electronic light duty transmissions. Light duty meaning not the ideal choice for a Cummins swap. With increased highway speeds the TH400 sucks in every way for the driver but they are simple and bulletproof.
Most...
Uh...it may be just me but DOT 3 and 4 are glycol based and DOT 5 is silicone based. 3 and 4 are compatible with difference in boiling points, 5 is not compatible with 3 or 4. DOT 5.1 (a synthetic I believe) is a 5 alternate which can be mixed with 3 or 4 from what I understand but I have no...
I buy WIX from Napa and usually shop around at my local Tractor Supply for oils unless Napa is running a sale. Rotella 15W-40 or Napa brand for this guy.
Wowser...this is starting to really heat up...pun intended.
I agree, now with some more consistent solid data, do a new thermostat. While your coolant is drained, backflush your heater core. I think you will have positive results.
Don't take anything personally, this is the internet. I...
It's just about getting the facts straight to help you or anyone else having the same issues. Unless you are positive your hoses are hot or cold and have a good temperature reading, no one here can help you and it confuses others. You will spend far less money buying an IR gun to diag the...
Wow...talk about rocket science here. The OP originally stated the hoses were cool after the engine was run up, now they are warm and now we are discussing axis of operation. How about if the the rotation of the planet in addition to the jet stream is causing this? After three pages of...
