    M1028 Bad U-Joint

First off unless your ujoint a had Spicer stamped in them they are probably poor quality. It has been absolute hit or miss with ujoint quality with off brand joints. Some last forever, some make it one or two oil changes. Possible cause number one. Did you overtighten the home straps? Most...

    Fan Clutch Troubleshooting

If the engine hoses are not warm this is probably the place to start. With the engine cold and not running is the fan very stiff to turn or able to move at all? This would indicate the clutch being seized up. I would venture as far as to remove the fan and drive it to see if it warms up. Of...

    H1 beadlocks on my M1008?

The only factory steel wheels I know of are Ford 8 luggers. The 70's to 80's vintage are 9.75" while the 90's (pre Super Duty) are around 8" wide. Very difficult to find the wide ones by me...I hunt the down on Craigslist and snatch them up. If I needed the headlock function, I would not...

    eBay Seal Kit

So I understand the link going out of date and the associated reason for having that rule. What is the proble with asking if the kit is any good or if someone has used it? Quality could be in question, may not have proper fit, etc. All of these would be valid reasons to post a question for a...

    Solar Battery Charger

A proper solar panel install should have a diode if the panel doesn't have one built in to prevent current from going into the panel. This means you should never have to disconnect it.

Fuse size based on Cable/wire size, right?

I think the misunderstanding here is the size of the alternator fuse. A 100amp alternator needs a 100amp fuse or something with a buffer say 120amp fuse. The crucial part is that the charge wire from the alternator needs to be capable of supporting 120amps, the rating of the circuit protection...

I think my transmission is smoked?!?!

I agree that if the fluid is burnt and has been for awhile, the damage is done. The OP will have to enlighten us here. The diag process should not be skipped. Why is the fluid low or burnt? Will the same problem occur on the the rebuilt trans. A thorough diag will keep you from having to...

I think my transmission is smoked?!?!

Not everyone has access to a flush machine, probably the best approach to do a good flush with no additive or detergents. I'm not one to recommend drilling a hole in the torque converter either to flush it. Believe it or not, that is an old school method and using a rivet when you are done to...

I think my transmission is smoked?!?!

Ok so let's hammer out basic auto trans diag...some of the most basic things you can do which have not been reported on yet is checking fluid level and condition. If not correct, remedy the situation before going any farther. If they appear ok, suggest investing in a new filter and some new...

    M1010 fuel pump woes

Replaced my leaky pump with a genuine Delco pump ($30 off Rockauto) and has been trouble free for almost two years now. My thought is why overcomplicate it when the mechanical pump works fine and is cheap. If you are dead set of replacing it take a look at the Stanadyne FM series filters. You...

drive shaft lengthen for 6inch lift?

Rear blocks tend to cause lots of wrap which can pull driveshafts out. Not as much with the CUCV rear spring pack but be aware of it. I honestly think your best lines would be stock rubber ones from a 2wd truck. I dislike braided ones because you can't pinch them to service brakes and they tend...

    M1028A3 Towing Capacity

This is true but I've been looking on ebay and it seems anything with a 12v Cummins is 5 digits minimum. Of course we are not talking about some rust bucket. They are getting more scarce and pricey as time goes on.

drive shaft lengthen for 6inch lift?

I think that statement is misleading, your stock shafts may be fine depending on what type of springs you get. Most people choose to push the front axle forward to help with firewall clearance. If that's the case, you more than likely will run out of slip yoke on the front shaft. More...

Anyone install A/C like this yet?

LOL...fair enough! I put this British made gauge pod on my dash and now the dash is dripping oil on my floorboard. They are nice and the blank face is great for customizing. I would run all the gauges for a diesel swap in a D90 or air locker switches when doing locker installs in those pods...

Anyone install A/C like this yet?

I've put those gauge pods in Defender rigs, they are nice but more expensive than sourcing one locally. If you go on Jegs, Amazon, or Fleabay, you will find plenty of universal pods between $10 to $40. I dig the spot, I want to add ECT, oil pressure, and a tach on a center pod. Small matching...

    Gen. 2 Light Flickering

I checked directly at the batts, replacing the regulators fixed it.

    Gen. 2 Light Flickering

My alternators both did the same exact thing, not at the same time but same failure one after another. With a voltmeter directly on the batts, it would spike above 14v when the GEN light flickered. It would occur very quickly, under a second total duration.

    CUCV four color MERDC camo?

That camo is awesome!!! I can't see half of that truck ;)

Truck ran and then drained the batteries. Help me out here

Great indicator is the voltmeter being in the yellow when the GP's are actually working. Something I always look for proper engagement and making sure they do not stay on. My system works fine and I do get solenoid chatter which may or may not be normal.
