    6.5/4l80e swap

Depends on what the OP is looking for in a truck. Yeah, that is a super cheap and great way to get a turbo and overdrive. Good point on resale, you'll never get the money back out of it. I also despise the DB4 IP due to the electronics. I think it's a great idea if you accept the pros an cons...

Lighting Alternatives/ Show us your headlights

I think dollar for dollar you can't be a really good sealed beam like a Silverstar or an H4 conversion lense with a quality bulb. I prefer the upper white color without crossing into a bluish color. Can't beat the upgrade cost wise. If you can take the plunge, HID or LED replacement lights are...

    Lift pump question

I don't see how electric is an upgrade. The mechanical pump works fine in a stock setup.

    CUCV Fuel cap?

My M1031 came with a lockable cap...has an entire aluminum service box covering it!

Grinding and growling noise in transmission or rear differential???

Is the sound resonating at the same frequency of the wheel speed or about three times faster. This will indicate if it's ring gear/axle noise or pinion/driveshaft/tcase. If the noise changes with the gears, probably in the trans.

    14 bolt carnage.

Looks like someone drove off with the brakes jammed on that one wheel...good candidate for a disc brake swap :)

4-Wheel Off-Road Magazine Dec 2013 issue, write up on replacing motor with big block

I simply don't understand why they took such a high output engine and mated it to a TH400. Talk about choking...that engine needs a manual trans or a new 6 speed to bang through the gears. I agree, still ruined the truck.

Upgrading a CUCV's max towing capacity?

You are cute... Let's do a heater core competition. I will take one out of an 84' CUCV and you can take one out of a 2014 2500HD. I win! Not good enough, lets do a front end rebuild. CUCV=repack wheel bearings, new kingpins, and 4 leaf spring bushings. 2014 2500 HD=my head hurts...you lost me...

Upgrading a CUCV's max towing capacity?

Older is better...I will tell you why. Ever since the American population became so obsessed with buying useless stuff, the fixation on the automobile has become greater every decade. Not to get into "new stuff sucks" mode because EFI has it's place but newer stuff is lame. Ever since the 80's...

Upgrading a CUCV's max towing capacity?

The NP208 isn't great but at least it's cheap to run and does the job. Any new parts that needs to be replaced on the newer case (pump issues, actuators, etc.) you can buy a pallet of NP208's. Have you actually used a late model truck for work? A 2500 HD with a plow is just a joke...keep stock...

Upgrading a CUCV's max towing capacity?

The old K30 chassis is still a big floppy C channel design but the newer trucks can't compare...they are junk. The only thing going for them is updated engine and transmission technology. Yes, makes more power but suck to work on. The 5/4 ton CUCV trucks would be great higher capacity work rigs...

Cold Weather starting of an M1008 - Any helpful advice ?

Just fired mine up without any engine heat in the fifteens. Cycled twice and kicked over. Good batts, fresh GP's, and a good starter. Should have no issues if your IP and fuel system are in good shape.

Tell the shipper to drop it in NH and I'll write you a check ;)

CUCV cab heater core multiple failures resulting in leaking of heater core into cab

You can check for proper grounding by opening the radiator cap and sticking in a DVOM lead to measure voltage drop to ground. I want to say anything over 0.1v DC is bad but I would google the procedure to become more familiar with it. I agree with everyone...sounds like electrolysis or a...

    Testing Glow Plugs

Are you looking to see if the whole system work or just checking the actual glow plug? If just the GP, don't bother. For the cost you may as well just replace as maintenance.

Alternator problems? or is it the batteries?

Pay very close attention to the GP circuit. Your controller may be coming on randomly. You can try to guess at the problem but you need to get some volt readings on both batts before solving the problem. Good rule of thumb with any truck that has a questionable past is to change all the belts...

Yukon hubs and Off Road Designs customer service problem.

Wait! When is it acceptable to sell a simple locking hub without a clause like "it requires a stupid procedure other than turning from the lock to unlock position" in order for the product to work? Return them and get Warn hubs. That is a joke and speaks volumes about the quality control and...

    Humvee tires and snow?

I couldn't tell you if the tread pattern is different between the civi or military version. Don't forget that the treadwright tires can use any carcass. The tread is the MTR pattern put onto a donor carcass. I do not know how treadwright doesn't get sued but the Guard Dog is not the 'same exact'...
