You said you had a remote reservoir hooked up to the MC cap. If so, you can install a connector to hook up the power bleeder in the hose from the reservoir to the MC cap. Just put a shutoff valve above it, so the pressure goes to the MC and not to the reservoir. For normal driving, the shutoff...
What I can tell you from my own experience is that you will spend 2.5-3k on the parts alone to do a rebuild of an existing engine. That is with new crank, liners, pistons, all bearings, new water pump.
That does not count the time spent and the "little things" that also add up.

Is winching with a mechanical winch a 2 soldier operation? YES for safety reasons. CAN you do it alone? Yes, but you better be acutely aware of the risks.

I went to the scrap yard, searched for and removed an air ride seat out of an International cab, modified it slightly to fit the high-back humvee military seat and my ars* is very happy. It is amazing what the physical disconnect from every darn pot hole does for the overall quality of the ride...
The "mini-wrecker" is probably not "rare" but unmolested nice examples are likely not easy to find. Welcome and you have one of the trucks I would like to add to my motorpool!

If you buy...
Are you planning to adjust the valves (there is a helpful drawing on this site so you only have to spin the engine twice), adjust the fuel and then check again re smoke? I also found that I could not hear the turbo well. Is it spinning?
Did you stir it up? If not, leave it alone for now and tackle after the parade. Keep spare filters on hand.
here are ideas for after: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?101019-Cleaning-out-a-fuel-tank-any-ideas
Mine (installed by the military) was wired like that as well...you can easily forget to switch off the fan and it will drain the batteries down. I have since removed the heater and shelved it, so problem is solved.
Thanks porky for that reminder. The short story for me is "just because you CAN does not mean you SHOULD".
The military cares about getting the mission done. If that means you have to put some mystery stuff in the tank that burns and gets you there, so be it. Ideally, the truck will make it...
