Gerald is a great guy, you'll like him!
The 14.00x20 (14.00R20) tires should be easy to get, and for an agency cheap or free. Hooks in Texarkana almost always has some lots up, and a bunch more in reserve that you can access. I bet there are some on MCLB Albany or one of the other Georgia...
Actually the V100 wont take the regular wheels due to backspacing/clearance issues. It would save us V guys a lot of wheel heartache if they would!
Yours looks like it has deuce (2.5 ton truck) wheels mounted dish-out.
Original V100 wheels are rarer then hens teeth!
Give WGTactical a holler...
Are you sure its a 1009? If so, it is re-axled or re-hubbed, since there are too many lugs! :D The stock M1009 only has 6, 1008/1028 et al have 8.
Cheers
The OP says he has no problem with digression! This thread wanders about some as it is. :)
And yes, this is all cool, and fun when you find a picture like that last one.
Cheers
The plot thickens!
I know the USAF Security folks had M715s in Vietnam (with gun mounts!). I saw those quite recently on a Vietnam vet's site. I'll poke in my picture collection and see what I saved.
The attached photo isn't clear enough to definitively identify anything (for me, at...
Interesting. Then we have received bad information! :|
I have read it several places, and even seen b&w pictures of Aussie and US troops and equipment together, including the Ferrets, that were reported to be in Vietnam. It looked right, so... Now I am going to have to see if I can find...
The Aussies used Ferrets in Vietnam, and that one apparently represents one of those. I'm not familiar with the camo, and the pictures I have seen were mostly black and white, so I can't comment on the accuracy of the colours.
Of course, my V isn't period correct paintwise either.
But the...
Next on the agenda was the Central Texas Airshow in Temple. This is a three-day event the first weekend of May, and our club (Lonestar MVPA) participates in the airshow every year.
With both my sons away in the Marines, and my college-senior daughter off doing school stuff, this was the first...
After the Vietnam Memorial run, I noticed a small amount of oil or grease grease in the right rear wheel well, and suspected that one of the wheel seals might be failing.
I also noticed the next time I drove it that the brakes felt a little soft, which is not a good thing when you are driving...
Everyone is doing well. Patrick is still "enjoying" Marine bootcamp. From the tone of his letters, and the little jokes he includes, his mind is in the right place and he is doing fine.
Davey is in the ramped up training cycle for their next deployment, he just went through demo school, and...
Okay, went and did some measuring yesterday on my M813's original markings for Bob.
All markings are 2" tall.
The letters in USMC are all spaced 1/4" apart, so closer than you can get with brass stencils.
The measurements for the M are diagrammed on the attached picture. It is NOT a scale...
You must be referring to the O-2! :)
One not so good pic. She was our FAC during the show, a really good pilot. I have some better shots of her plane from last year.
Cheers
PS - that picture got really shrunken down when uploaded, I'll see if I can make it smaller myself and repost it...
Nossir, I moved to the US when I was 14 in 1974, joined the Marines in 1978, earned my US citizenship (and fiercely proud of it!). Both my sons are currently serving in the Marines.
My V100 is a Vietnam Vet though, documented as serving with the 720th MP out of Long Binh in 1968/69. It also...
Here are some from the Temple (Texas) airshow last weekend. We were supporting their Vietnam part of the show, doing a downed pilot rescue scenario.
Unlikely choice of vehicles for that particular job, maybe we can say the pilot came down near a highway. The crowd loved it, and that was the...
I suspected it might be a conversion from an M54 because of that tag. I don't know how to find out what was rebuilt and what was new build though. Mine is dated 1973. That is not my ID number on the tag, of course, I changed it before posting.
Cheers
On the deuces, M809 series (including my own M813), and M939 trucks I have looked at, the USMC ###### on the hood is also what is stamped on the data plate (including the USMC) under "Identification Number". See attached photo for an example.
Sandcobra, I'd be interested to see an example off...
