Most were used for 155mm and 8" rounds and propellant charge cans. Regarding how stout they are, if my memories are right, a155 round weighs in just under 100 pounds and the old 8" rounds were something like 196 w/o the fuze and TNT booster.
Picture the trailer loaded with a batch of them...
The rear tires were driving just fine in low. Is it possible for the rears to be in gear and the fronts to be out of gear?
I'm just not seeing how it could be, but I'm sure not a transfer case expert. The front hubs were definitely turned all the way into the locked position.
During the Rausch Creek trip my M1008 got "high centered" on a rock at the rear differential. It had both rear tires off the ground and both front tires firmly on the ground.
The transfer was in "4 low" with the front hubs locked.
The front wheels would not turn to pull it off. The rears...
RE: Stragglers . . .
There will be a lot of pics and video to follow. Please be patient.
There were a ton of full sized Jeeps, buggies and rock crawlers along with a lot of stupified looks from the occupants, particularly when we found each other on "Black for rocks with Red slopes"" trails...
I'm looking for the sheet metal clip that spans the back of the oil pressure gauge . A GL truck from Picitinny had the oil gauge removed. I bought a new gauge but need the clip.
Has anyone got one?
If anyone going to Rausch Creek has one, that would be great.
Thanks
Lance
I went to the local copy center, had them do a high resolution scan of my license (NY uses hograms) and had them blow it up to fill an 8.5"x11" sheet. I've always used the copy to fax the EUC and have had no problems since doing it that way.
It's interesting and scary reading.
I wonder if there's any chance of putting any pressure on from the DLA side. GL is supposed to be getting the best possible price for these and I wouldn't think that this is defensible as the way to do that. I doubt that GLs wanting to lower costs is a...
It's yours so you can do what you want.
However, it's a very rare machine and, particularly if the ladder and other accessories are there, it's more nearly a museum project than just about any other post-war MV.
My wife's middle brother started his Air Force career and a flight line fireman...
I must not be looking in the right bushes. The "best" thing I've found in a hedgerow is a 1946 Bantam trailer.
Good find! You do realize that if that's at RC you may need to find another way home, don't you?

I'm 6'4" and 235, so leg room is important. One of my deuces had a M1009 bucket seat on the spring ride seat when it came from GL.
I loose a little leg room but the driving position and the support of the bucket seat make it the most comfortable riding deuce I've ever driven. It's comfortable...
The tape is what the Jersey Guard folks use to mark a vehicle turned over to GL. At Bordentown and Lakehurst they use that to help keep the trucks handed over to GL from getting picked over. I'm not sure if they use the tape at Picitinny.
I have accounts at both the local NAPA and the Parts Plus stores. Neither carries it, nor could they get it. The Parts Plus guys sent me to Aamco. The cost was only $6.
Disc brakes will tend to show more heat than drums that haven't been worked hard because there is no mechanism to pull the pads well clear of the rotors like a brake shoe return spring. It's an apples and oranges thing. Sticky pistons or rotors with excessive run out will show the most heat.
I...
UPDATE I went to the local Aamco joint. As I walked through the door with the remnants of the old gasket, the boss said "So, you need a Chevy transfer case gasket." As he said that, one of the mechanics, who was standing in the work bay door, reached around the corner and, without looking...
Getting ready for a pick up at Picatinny (190 miles) and looked at this again to jog the old brain cell.
Some more things I'd add. I'm lucky that some local friends also have MVs (including a herd of M35A2s), so we pool parts and help each other at pick up time. It makes taking chances on more...
No.2Diesel... Do you plan the trail time as a go out and stay out kind of thing or do you expect to loop back to camp occasionally? I'm trying to get a feel for how you see the day developing.
Also, after checking the RC website I realize they are closed Thursday, so we'll be coming on Friday...
