    Miltope MSD V2

Intended purpose. Diagnostics. My Dell that I keep bumming off a friend works just fine to do the job, but it'd be real nice to be able to power the laptop off of the vehicle through the MSD-ICE serial cable assembly. Plus, it'd be kinda cool to see how the auto-installer actually runs for...

    Miltope MSD V2

Hey, since you have one...how hard is it to setup a bracket to space the hard drive correctly into that bay? My worry with buying one of these old laptops is getting the hard drive set in just the right position. My next concern is spare batteries...any chance you know of a commercial...

2 Man Softop Gun Truck HMMWV??

...and I'm not doubting that! I'm just saying that with this one being official and filled with all kinds of kooky things that aren't standard, it makes it more possible to throw together whatever you need to fill a need and for it to not look too out of place, since the military is clearly...

    MSD-ICE Kit Diagnostics

Got an answer for that connector. The J7 port on the ICE adapter (that I've been calling ICE box) is designed to connect to the DPA. The -10 manual specifically states "Special Purpose Cable (PN 13580839-2) uses a 15 pin D connector to connect the DPA to the J7 connector of the ICE...

    MSD-ICE Kit Diagnostics

What connector? Do you mean that parallel port I mentioned? If so, the TM included with the ICE Box mentioned what it is and how to use it, I'm just not at the computer with it on it yet. If not, them all I can say is the ICE Box basically already is an analog to digital converter and in...

2 Man Softop Gun Truck HMMWV??

Nope...but this is proof that you can weld anything onto a HMMWV and you can call it "authentic style." It's going to suck, come time to replace that soft top. Better have a good cover shop make a template from your current top before it falls apart.

    MSD-ICE Kit Diagnostics

I just realized that I should share some usage shots of MSD-ICE kit for this thread. Nothing in this post should be new for anyone that already read the "what have you done to your HMMWV today..." thread. The setup: In the above photo, you see the second revision ICE Box (green in color...

    MSD-ICE Kit Diagnostics

Sure, I'll be happy to once I'm home. I'm actually working on picking up a second kit for both spare parts and as a lender unit. There's a MV museum near me that has three HMMWVs on the way and they would probably appreciate having one of these on-hand to do a bit of tuning (though I admit...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Mine is the Miltope MSD STE-ICE Kit v2. All of the Miltope-type kits should be very similar with only minor revisions. The old school method is the STE/ICE-R box, which is a standalone box that you punch in what test number you want to run, hook up the correct cables, then start the test and...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Alright, I was doing some looking around. I think you've basically got two options here: replace the entire engine wiring harness (~$200 used, $450 new), or purchase a damaged wiring harness to salvage the connector off of it (~$50; you could actually purchase just the damaged part, but you'd...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

That one's critical! That's your main connector to your PCB/EESS/S3 control box. You're at really high risk of that coming loose and causing damage to that box (notorious for getting killed just by unplugging/plugging in that connector with the vehicle off), which will be $300-600 to replace...

4th of July HMMWV Plans Anyone?

Well dang, now what are you going to do? Judging by your signature, you're out of MVs!

    No High Range NP242

What this guy said, and was explained out more thoroughly by another post earlier today in here. Put it on your "dead" H range and look for shafts spinning underneath. Your torsen differentials will sent ALL of the power to the least-resisting, broken joint. You could drive it with...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Our office is at 7-8% humidity during the winter. So. Much. Paper. At least in the summer, there's enough Indiana humidity that seeps in from outside that we get to enjoy being at 25-30%. I get my fill of humidity when I'm out working on the HMMWV. Today was not an exception. Started the...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

You actually just reminded me...when I first got my TCM harness stub, I noticed something peculiar about that. The military had the same wire diameter issue for the metal tags they use to mark the wires. They had put pieces of heatshrink on the 18 AWG wire to enlarge the outer diameter and...

    No High Range NP242

I was that guy! As it turns out, I also had the wrong linkage piece attached to the transfercase. The little cam-shaped piece on the NP218 and NP242 are cut with a different angle for the slot, so you must use the right one. No skimping on $5 with that part!

    Don't know were to start

CB radios! I can work with that. Everything for CB is all right around 27 MHz (26.965 MHz - 27.405 MHz, in approximately 0.01 MHz steps; a few channels have a 0.02 MHz step to allow for other uses). You can get a military HF radio that supports AM operation (most will be USB or LSB...which is...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

It's actually a non-issue. Take a look at the wiring diagram a bit more closely...everywhere it calls for 18 AWG for the TCM harness, it doesn't terminate with a typical military or bullet connector. All of it goes directly from the TCM to the transmission stub. If you're wiring based off of...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Sorry, trade secret. Just kidding. It's mil spec. I picked up the 16 AWG "prestolite wire" from Erik's military surplus, which comes in 100ft increments (incidentally, that's almost perfect for a 4L80E harness, as long as you also have separate 18AWG wire for the sensors). I looked up the...

    Putting my M998 back to a M1025

Excellent! I was wanting to throw one of these in my HMMWV some day, but I had heard there was some mounting brackets that you needed especially for this setup. Is there any chance this is covered in one of the TMs or you have some installation paperwork you could scan and share? There's a...
