    Which inverter voltage input?

Yes, it has a 100 amp charging system but you run 3kW inverter at its rated output and the voltage will drop as the alternators running at maximum output cause the rectifier bridge to heat up which drops output voltage. Then the regulator heats and the temperature compensation also drops...

    Can't load pictures

Guess I could come over with the iPad and take some pictures..

    Can't load pictures

503 is an error of the server here making a connection with your end. That it is on multiple computers there, try disconnecting all but the one you are using to see if a computer on your side is overloading your connection.

Lord help me I've become a Goat Herder

Not looking forward to wrenching on an FMV I have no experience with..configuration plus two stroke Detroit Diesel. I heard of GGs when I was in the US Army, just never saw one in real life. Yes, I bailed on this recovery, first sinus and allergy attack of the season. The only med that works...

    RAPCO Spray Can paint issues

Yes, Mike, that will work to clear the internal straw of congealed pigment. Ounce of prevention would be to store the cans upside down. i have blown out he straw with compressed air and those little plastic cone inflators that come with cheap compressors. This trick also works when running...

Another CUCV Alternator problem and fix thread

Now you have me thinking this too might afflict my 1031. Just the faintest glow from that light has me troubled. And little voltage quirk, the dash military volt meter dips to the green-yellow band when warm. thankfully I now have cordless impact wrench so pulling it apart is a snap.

Wheels, dolly or cradle for MEP-003a

I use two 2x6 through the pocket, from underneath, then lag screwed my drive assembly into this wood. This is for the rear. The front axle assembly is similar, only the generator sits on the frame. A few blocks shims it up to the front channel. Less than ideal but zero mods to the unit. I...

    Which inverter voltage input?

Advantage of 24 volt? Half the draw on each alternator and battery. Half the copper required to connect the inverter. You still need at least 4 gauge wire. 3000 watts at 24 volts is 125 amperes. 3000 watts at 12 volts is 250 amperes. i have one, in 24 volt setup. When running a 1500 watt...

M1009 dies if I let the throttle off too fast

Common problem with the injection pump. It meters fuel by varying pressure in the feed to the plungers. The plungers are held in the bottomed out position by spring force. Assuming a linear spring force, length of compression of the spring is a linear function of pressure. By varying the...

Lord help me I've become a Goat Herder

I doubt he will pull it with his deuce from TX to ID and back again. This is looking like an awesome road trip but not that awesome. 50 mph for 1300 miles?

Cool and rainy, stuck at home taping and floating ceiling when all of a sudden...

Power outage! Dang, I will have to use the MMEP 002A. The double M is for more as it is self propelled[thumbzup]. But still, 75 yards to the shop in the torrential downpour, motoring it 200 yards around the house to the service entrance point, then manual hook up...there has to be a better...

Wheels, dolly or cradle for MEP-003a

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?75908-MEP-002A-is-ALIVE!/page4&highlight=I built a self mobile cart for my 002A. The rear axle is a 2 speed lawn tractor transaxle, driven by a 1/2 hp 24 volt motor. In high gear, it is about as fast as a slow walk. In low gear, it will pull the set...

    Ether on mep-002a

Could have been incorrect adjustment of the drive link, causing the starter drive to go over center and hang up. This would keep it engaged and running despite the solenoid being de-energized. I overhauled a starter out of a M35A2 and had that same problem, just on the bench test.

CUCV gear oil (yes, I searched)

For the bearings, either is FINE. for the gears, as long as either has the correct extreme pressure additives, that also is fine. I doubt whale oil, of any variety, meets the viscosity or extreme pressure additives.

Picked up 6 MEP-802A gensets and will be documenting making them all runners here

Well, the basement looks grand. I would be willing to work on your gen sets in exchange for work on my sun room...roof is done, standing seam metal. Ceiling wired, insulated and drywall hung. Just need 8 sheets of 12 foot drywall for walls, cut to between 11 and 10 feet...

    starter upgrade thought's

The under dash solenoid also keeps arc wear minimal on the ignition switch since the under dash solenoid is a bit smaller than the one on the starter. There can be two arcs for every time the starter is used, one on making the connection (inductive inrush) and then on breaking the contact as...

    Mep 002a, 003a automatic starting

It doesn't matter, the exciter rotor is turning so it develops alternating current which is then turned into DC (rectified) by the diodes on the rotor, this DC then makes the main rotating magnetic field.

2 Cyl. MEP-002A motor on a Log splitter

So a 3600 rpm engine bothers you while an 1800 rpm diesel twin doesn't? What I am doing is getting a surplus or used electric motor in 208 three phase and use this to drive the hydraulic pump. If you are building a splitter, best to build it in a double acting design so there is no wasted time.

M35A2 Continental Multi Fuel - Harmonic Balancer cracked - why?

yes, the rubber should be visible, at least where it is injected in between the hub and weight ring. I believe the hub material is gray cast iron so it is brittle, even more so on the key way as that is a huge stress riser. Most are cut with a key way broach that has sharp corners.

    Roadside safety: Stay Alive!

Great points. I see too many stopped for a flat on the shoulder of a 70 mph highway. I don't care how expensive those rims are, your life or three weeks in ICU makes that ghetto bling 21" chrome rim with spinners look like lunch change from a taco shack. My daily driver has a fuse corrosion...
