    Compression testing M929A2 8.3 Cummins

You can do that or drill and tap the inlet fitting at the injection pump for 1/8 pipe and install a fitting there. When it runs, take the oil filler off. If it tries to blow off when you get to the last of the threads there is an internal issue. If it just has small puffs of smoke, you should be...

    Compression testing M929A2 8.3 Cummins

Sounds like low fuel pressure. You should have 25-35 at the inlet of the injection pump.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

Negative ghost rider. Blow-by past rings does not carry moisture, unless the head gasket is failed and allowing coolant into the cylinder. The only way moisture gets into the crankcase to show what you have under the valve covers is from something failed, like a cracked casting, an oil cooler...

    Head Gasket Repair

Old style are old school, like 1930's technology and rely on compression to seal oil and coolant passages. the new style are like FelPro type gaskets, the oil and water passages are grommeted for sealing. They also do not require re torqueing.

    Water/Methanol injection

You have an old military truck, why do you care about mpg? If you want to use it commercially and want mpg, get a newer truck with a/c, radio, comfortable interior.

5 Ton 290 Big Cam Swap

The reason there are no piston cooling nozzles in the NHC is purely cost. Less machining equals less money, uncle sugar bought lots of these engines. The small cam, no piston cooled engines were used heavily in the refuse industry also. Just a tidbit on the flywheel hsg swap from small to big...

M939A2 Fuel Pump Shut Off Wire......Motor wont Die, Help

Put a DVOM on the fuel shut off. With the engine running, there should be battery voltage at the terminal. When you shut it off the voltage should go away. If it stays there, there is an issue in the chassis wiring, if the voltage goes away and it is still running, the shut off solenoid is junk...

NHC250 with a Cummins PT Pump?

There is a tag on top of the pump that tells exactly what it is to a qualified person. Remove the pump, a few lines, the linkage and 4 bolts, and have it repaired.

NHC 250 fuel pump filter #

You do not need to mess with that "filter". The ONLY reason it is there is to catch debris from an internal pump failure so the pump pieces don't go into the injectors. It is not a maintenance thing.

    Oil Plug Drain Valve Source?

About the same as the above post, used a lot of these in the repowers I have done... http://www.oildrainvalve.net/

No fire in #4 after rebuild

How do you know the engine has high blow-by? If the amount of smoke coming out the tube makes a big cloud coming from the truck, something is awry, if there is just a little bit o smoke or a light breeze leaving the tube, it's normal. The only way to tell what it is, is to measure it. A cracked...

    Diesel Engine Cooling Liquids ?

Nope, it is blue and mixes with everything. DexCool is bad stuff. The stat seals on my duramax were like goo when I changed them. FG went back in. If you can find it, use Fleetguard. I am still using it daily for repairs to top off systems filled with all other ELC stuff.

    wiper upgrade

I would think it is the same stuff.

    Diesel Engine Cooling Liquids ?

Stay away from the red/orange elc stuff, it will, in time eat, make soft, attack rubber parts in the system, on the 855, mostly the water rail components and the radiator tank gaskets, depending on how old they are. You need a low silicate coolant, SCA is an option, if it is not in the coolant...

M923A1 won't start/IP not moving fuel.... need Assistance

THAT it not a good thing. Ever see what happens when you use too much starting fluid? It turns the carbon soft, it gets pushed down into the ring lands, re solidifies and then you have stuck rings, no compression. A little goes a long way. If one of these pigs won't light, there is an issue...

M923A1 won't start/IP not moving fuel.... need Assistance

The primer pump is rebuildable, just a few o-rings. OP, hold the throttle to the floor and crank it. It will lite if all you did was change the filter....unless you messed up an o-ring on the can, but when you pressurized the tank you should have had a leak if the ring rolled.

    m939 overheated Exhaust Gas Temperatures

Oh yeah, they are freekin' heavy!

    m939 overheated Exhaust Gas Temperatures

Untrue. Cummins as well as other manufacturers have been using pistons made of non aluminum for close to 20 years. Early ones were articulated with aluminum skirts and hardened alloy crowns, now they are one piece with just a small "foot" for the skirt.

    m939 overheated Exhaust Gas Temperatures

^^ This. People think these things should accelerate like a sports car.
