    Rookie brake question

You have replaced the calipers and the caliper bushings? The brakes are still dragging? Are we working on an M1009 K5 Blazer or a K30 variant? The larger reservoir goes to the front brakes. If you are working on the truck the slides on the knuckles need to be cleaned and lubed so the calipers...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I have used parts that were made all over the world for years. Some things have not faired as well as others. I see stuff that is built and maintained in the USA and am not impressed with the longevity or fit and finish. I have been using parts from wherever I can get them. The lift pump has...

CUCVRUS Repair Projects | Page 4 | SteelSoldiers Check out the tread I posted on the correct lift pump. Make sure you have the correct one. Accept no substitutes. They will fit but they will not pump fuel. The pumping action must take place immediately upon compression of the lever. Replace the...

I use Permatex the right stuff lightly on everything. And yes I use the Rolok 2" mini disc for cleaning small areas. that cover plate will come right off. If you are not on a tight budget I would also change the fuel lift pump before installing a new injection pump. Dissect that old pump after...

Little tip that has worked for me. Use an impact if possible to break the M10 thermostat bolts loose. They have a tendency to strip out the threads due to the aluminum on steel reaction. Electrolysis I think is the correct term. But yes use a bit of never seize on the bolts when reattaching and...

    M1009 Little Red Riding Hood.

I began the evening with my hammer and dolly. I found 1 small dent on the left 1/4 panel and a few on the right. No rust. I was able to dolly most of the dents as they were reachable from both sides. I have a few paint less dent remover pry bars I borrowed and they work really well in the areas...

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

Today after my regular job I came home to the heat and went to work on my customer vehicles. Mr. Rusty needed greased and the steering stabilizer changed. I opened the box on the new stabilizer and no attaching hardware. Fortunately I was able to glean some hardware from my scrap pile and reuse...

Good deal. I am not sure how far you want to go. But if you remove the hoses you may as well change them. Most CUCV's I se have the original hoses on them. Not expensive and once you do it you are assured to not have to do them again. But that antifreeze has expired so I would replace it with...

    siphon fuel

Take the feed line off up front at the engine fuel lift pump inlet. It will siphon out completely. Most are a 1/4" hose clamp. Use a nut driver or a small ratchet. Good Luck.

The petcock is at an awkward position. I would et a piece of 3/8" rubber hose and attach it to the petcock. Put a little grease in the end and slip it over the petcock drain pipe. That drain is on the drivers side bottom of radiator. I use a box wrench and loosen the petcock. After it is...

    M1009 LED Problems

After you have the fuse block split you will see one leg that supplies power. It's ben a few years since I corrected one of these for this issue. I just remember that 2 fuse holders were serviced from the power that I eliminated and spliced into. Once you get the box split you will understand...

Answer. Yes you need a total of 4 and they are all the same gaskets with the part number I listed and you showed me. Answer. Yes the cross pin dowel is on the throttle shaft. You need a 3/8" socket or wrench to remove that VCV. Retain that valve and you can see the marks where it was adjusted...

    M1009 LED Problems

Common issue. You can split the fuse block and add an inline fuse. the melt is from an over loaded circuit and the heat was caused by the poor connection due to the overload. You will need 2 inline fuse holders to replace that leg of power on the fuse box. I also used a circuit breaker for the...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

How about just an entire long block assembly? But if it were me I would find a set of used heads. Just get them checked for acceptable cracks. Some cracks are normal. Most all have minor cracks in the pre chambers. That area is replaceable. Have you had them checked at a reputable automotive...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Ideally and the way it is designed the metal vacuum line will snap snugly into the modulator. The rubber hose was just to make a tight seal and retain the 2 pieces together. I have pictures if needed to explain. But that was the original design. Looks to me if that hose were shorter it would fit...

And the glow plugs you pictured will require you to replace the female spade connectors on the wiring harness or making a small adapter with 3/16" male spades to 1/4" female spades. I would make the adapter. I always use and have for over 27 years the AC Delco 13G glow plugs. Never looked back...

And I forgot to answer. The small pin I am referring to is the pin that activates the plastic vacuum control valve. It has 2 hose connections on it and controls the transmission shift. That little hatched pin has been missing on a few pumps. Retain that pin just in case. Good Luck.

May I recommend that you change the rear coolant gaskets also. Since the heads are interchangeable right for left the coolant passages are also on the rear heads. One is just a blank cover plate and the other houses the glow plug temperature sending unit. Show a picture of which sending unit you...
