I have seen that done on some of the uparmored 936s. I had forgotten about that mod just cut off the mounting bracket and raise it high enough to clear everything and weld it back on.

I would still recommend the filter because of the junk in the engine not just what coolant you might use. Look at hide a beds and futons. You may have to make what you need but will be what you want it to be.
