It looks like a Chevy cab on a M35A3 chassis. The funny thing is that they kept the hood fenders and grill.
I have seen several water trucks locally that have civilian cabs and front ends on military chassis
California non commercial liscenses are for RV's.
The real issue is if you are driving out of class the LEO can and will have your vehicle towed and impounded. Arguing with a LEO is a recipe for getting a ticket. The cost for the tow and impound could be as much as school to get your CDL.
One of the issues with the 931 in commercial service is the wedge air brakes. In order to correctly rebuild wedge brakes you have to replace everything and that is costly. The trucks are an old design but they are used in the construction industry.
The issue with the cat trans is finding some...
For that I would look at the 915, 916 or even a 920. They cost a lot more than the 931 but they are better suited for commercial highway work.
The cat trans has better top end gear ratios than the Allison used in the early models but you can have shifting issues with the cat.
For commercial work on the road I would stay away from a m931.
For commercial work in general weight is a major issue.
How heavy of an equipment trailer do you plan to haul?
GL always seems to brake the glad hands off of these trailers. The glad hands are a common truck part, If the the street elbow is broken, mcmaster carr has them.
You have three options.
Tow it with a tractor, air up the tires, add towong lights, see if the brakes will work. Be sure to check...
