    MEP002 CNG conversion

CNG is the buzz word in stretching diesel supplies, only thing is the range is highly limited. Diesel is dense and requires gossamer thin tanks to safely store. Beware of those pitching buzz words, that is the hallmark of a politician in need of retirement.

Oklahoma City Metro Deuce hydraulic head Assistance Needed

The drive key that connects the plunger to the drive gear can be off by 180 degrees. There are three flats and one curved edge. Assure this is correct. You have to disassemble to check, it doesn't need any special tools. If the plunger is not moving, that is a sign the plunger is stuck at...

    New to me MEP-002

The circlip holding the button in place is only to keep it together until the pump is installed. But if the plunger sticks, it could cause the button to fall out and get intimate with the tappet and plunger spring. So having it installed is a must. The M35A2 hydraulic head is of the same...

    MEP002 CNG conversion

This thread is far more complex than spark ignition engine modification to natural gas, it is bi-fueled diesel. This is more efficient than spark ignition because of thermodynamics, Diesel engines have higher compression ratio and lower pumping losses. Yes, it could be done but the cost is too...

    Mep-003A Gen Head question

Unless the head is burned, any repair is simple. Rotating diodes and one bearing. That is all that goes wrong. Control system and engine are the other two that give the most fits.

    MEP002 CNG conversion

For stationary applications, you don't need to compress the natural gas, making it far more economical than compressed. This is what makes CNG expensive.

    Mep-003A Gen Head question

12 lead is 12 lead. Sure, the 003 engine could swing a 15 kW generator but probably only to 12 kW before the speed would drop below 1800 rpm. They are both 4 pole. now, back the control lever stop adjustment for more fuel and it might work, until the injector cooling heat sink melts or cokes...

    MEP002 CNG conversion

What CDR is talking about is hybrid diesel and natural gas. How it works is simple, natural gas is mixed with the intake air at concentrations less than the lower flammable limit, the small amount of diesel needed to induce combustion then burns the natural gas, releasing the heat equivalent to...

    MEP 002 no start

You could give the injectors a squirt of B12 Chemtool, this stuff really works well on diesel varnish.

    MEP 002 no start

No smoke means no fuel. Does the injector pump control lever move freely? Have someone look while cranking, the lever must move up with the engine shut off solenoid. They like to stick, the lever moves a collar that slides on the plunger, the clearances are tiny, the slightest bit of varnish...

Runaway started help for a friend...

When the front battery was disconnected, the starter then drew through the front battery in reverse current mode. That is what melted the battery top. Should have disconnected the front negative, then front positive, then rear negative. Still, there could be damage. Replace e fusible links...

Anyone in the San Antonio area a CUCV expert

Yeah, there have been some basket cases coming up for auction, not going to mention which ones but when it is missing the master cylinder lid and instrument cluster among other things..

Anyone in the San Antonio area a CUCV expert

I guess I lucked out with mine. Good rubber, all fluids spot on. Only items needed were the vacuum valve regulator on the injection pump and harmonic damper. Of course wipers plus time looking over everything is worth the peace of mind.

Removing Mud/Clay Stains from Soft Doors

Bleach works on organic stains, not minerals (clay). Pressure washer, start at lowest pressure and work up. Detergent helps, clays have strong ionic surface charges.

Anyone in the San Antonio area a CUCV expert

You planning on buying one in San Antonio and driving it to KS? Definitely replace the harmonic damper, O'Reileys near downtown has them in stock. The usual belts, hoses and radiator check. Fluids etc and you should be golden.

Tips for inspecting a generator before purchase

Yes, since Cummins took over Onan in the 1990s, legacy support will be decreasing. Plus with ever increasing emission regulations, many older engines will be foundering regardless of make. The 002/003 generator engines are lightly loaded so they should last a long time given proper care. For...

Tips for inspecting a generator before purchase

Lift the engine stop solenoid to make sure the fuel control lever follows it, if not that is a sure sign the injection pump needs attention. The governor spring force when the engine isn't running is maximum.

    license plate mounting ideas

Yes, I have an idea for the wiring. The left rear marker lamp is close enough, just need a two pin quick connect and a pair of Scotchlock connections to make it work. You have to be careful when towing behind a true military vehicle because the license plate light is 12 volt. Of course behind...

    New Guy with an MEP002A

Nice job, mkcoen is having the same issues, his 003 had been running but now is having the same symptoms. I would like to get some spare parts on hand for these pumps, useable used is fine.

Voltmeter is not working (at all - never moves)

Seen this issue too, the needle is rubbing on the gauge face, hanging up. I repaired mine but at considerable work to open the gauge, bend the needle, then check calibration and finally, crimp the bezel ring back.
