You can leave the hose connected to the nipple on the filter canister permanently. I have had mine that way for years.
The xm757 8x8 has this connection "from factory", since the truck was made to swim (engine submerged) without any preps other than pressurizing engine, axle housings, brake...

Yes, the chains can be modified or fixed, I had a set for duals and changed them into singles when I had 900s on the deuce...
Have been thinking about adding cross links to make them more "hard-pavement-friendly".
They are in my xm757 TMs (TM 9-2320-230-20), but the M809 TM 9-2320-260-20 has some very similar illustrations. The xm757 has the multifuel engine like the deuce, so much the same applies...
Edit: Oh, the manuals are from the late sixties or early seventies and the illustrations may not be the...

I have little wear on my front tires, about 1/32 for every 1,000 miles and attribute it to the following:
1) Check alignment and replace the shocks to dampen high frequency vibes. Check the leaf springs...
Did a little homework and it's probably the 400Hz set looking at the control panel. The generator portion is a lot smaller for the 400Hz, which is to be expected.
Mike, I do have the 60hz set, but had heard that either one could have been used.
Which genset is this? The engine looks like the same as on the 60Hz 10KW, but the panel looks different. Is this the 400Hz version?

Based on Eric's comment, I went back for more testing and found that the aim is important, if the air stream is off only a little there is an effect on the speed. I was able to get the plastic tubing up to 28 knots, so my test is inconclusive, however the dents don't appear to have much effect...
Using an air speed sensor for a sail boat, I compared the dented 3/8" copper tubing from the 8x8 to a new 3/8" plastic air brake tubing. Air pressure was 120-125 psi.
The dented copper tubing: Produced an air speed of 30.2 knots.
The new plastic tubing: Produced an air speed of 20.7 knots...
Check the PS magazine section for more on safety wiring. If you need the wire go to Mcmasters.com, they have soft stainless steel "lock" wire in the gauge size you'll need....
If this kind of thing makes you nervous, you'd be a wreck working on the xm757, lock wires on fan bolts, steering...

Another thing is that they are not steel, but made of an aluminum alloy, and as such, very hard to find replacements for and have to come out "non-destructively".
Slowly but surely Patrick. First noticed that the torque rods were binding when driving over this little hill after taken the shocks off, which were my first suspects.
