Add to that the precaution of always removing the negative connection first and installing it lastly. That way if you accidentally touch ground when working on the positive, it won't cause a short and touching ground (chassis= battery box) when working on the negative terminal is harmless.

There is a difference between the black (Neoprene) and the orange (Silicone rubber)...the Neoprene would be marginal with the temperatures that I have measured at the discharge end of...
I use an MX-7777 suppressor for all electrical devices, it connects to the battery and provides primary protection with its own on/off switch as well.

Mike, you may want to check the specifications to make sure they can handle the automotive electrical environment. Some input protection may be required and, at least, wire them so they are not on when the engine is started.
