Ten-four on the engine pick-up Kenny.
Yolner, the history of the HIAB on my deuce goes back almost 15 years, so there are a lot of pictures around. Here are a few.
Mike, I like options.
I have the oilpan gasket on hand, but the engine is about the same price as a set of new bearings.
Replacing the engine would also lead to an interesting project, powering the crane from another source, possible electric and using it to lift the engines.
They need 9-inch wide wheels IIRC, the stock wheels are only 7 inches wide, but that doesn't stop some of the people here. :-)
About cannibalizing the Wagoneer, there is a junkyard about 1/2 mile from our house and Adrian made a deal, trading some junk we had for this one.
It was in fact pretty...
Thanks for the inputs!
Just tried 3M "Super weatherstrip" (#03602) and it peels like dead skin. Also tried Permatex contact cement (#25905) with similar result.
Work in progress here...
When we used a silicone encapsulant for electronic circuitry, way back, a primer was needed for it to stick...
The gasket for the engine hatch on the 8x8 needs mending and I'm looking for a glue that will work on it. Silicone rubber must be glued to aluminum, that's the problem. I have used "Goop" a silicon glue for a lot of things, but it doesn't work at all in this application.
The one image below...
Helped my son Adrian with removal of parts to be used in his CJ-7 project.
The deuce is running on 100% homemade biodiesel here and, yes, the engine is knocking, which is particularly noticeable at idle, not so bad at 1,200-1,500 rpm (when using the crane). The oil pressure also drops when the...
Are you installing the complete "Winterization" kit? It's not well described in the TMs I have. In the diagram below, where does the hot air come from? Is there a separate heater in the front section or does it all come from the rear mounted fuel burning heater?
A word of caution when using the...
Received the report from the lab and the only thing abnormal was the amount of water in the oil, 0.1% , which may be a result from not running the engine long enough at temperature to let it boil off. Probably just condense water from long periods of sitting.
Anyway, the oil has been changed...
To clarify, don't let the canister turn when tightening, seat the canister and then torque it. You are correct with the torque value, more may loosen the threaded insert below in the bracket.
The thermal switch for the ether start system is set at 20°F if they are all equal. I tested one I had one time.
50 deg ambient? That's not cold, you have other issues. Check the fuel lines for air leaks to begin with, bleed the lines at the secondary/final filters. How are your fuel filters...
FDC= Fuel Density Compensator, it's part of the injection pump fuel control system and effects the fuel delivery based on its viscosity. Delivery of heavier fuels (diesel) is reduced and lighter fuel delivery is increased to maintain constant power output. Only works for fuels listed for the...
I have had the analysis done many times and the kit from NAPA is only $14 something. Besides the metal, fuel and coolant content (important!) along with viscosity are included.
My problems with knock and low oil pressure started with fuel in the oil, while a thousand miles away from home. A...
Watched it all week...glad it went for more than scrap price. :-)
Would have loved to have the funds to bid on it, lots of details intact, so it probably wasn't used that much.
Looking forward to sharing my experiences with my own 757.
The tire size for the truck is 405/70-20. Top speed is 50...
Make sure you match the rear tires, if there is any difference in the total tire circumferences between the two axles, there will be drag. Highway trucks have an interaxle differential, our MVs don't.
Chris, you should consider crimping your connections. Soldering old corroded wires outdoors may not be reliable. The crimping action will "rub off" the surface coating and form a gas tight reliable joint. I have crimped virtually all my connections on both the 6x6 and 8x8 and they number in the...
