Parts are getting real hard to find. The 335 is a fossil compared to the NHC...and it's a dinosaur!! My 2cents, leave the 335 alone, look for an NHC or better yet an NTC.
Scoring pistons can happen on any engine. Too much heat, not enough cooling. Could be from high coolant temps or too much fuel in a diesel. In a gasser, same thing, too high coolant temp, timing, being lean.
You got the filter under the alternator, correct? If the in tank pump isn't working you can have a low power complaint, check that. Also, the screen might be plugged on the pick up.
^^^Only with the old style gaskets. Does the engine have old or new style gaskets? You can tell by looking at the exhaust side of the gasket. Old style have tabs that stick out under the exhaust ports, new style gaskets don't come out all the way to thew edge of the deck, It makes it look like...
If your guy said the liners were putting water in the oil, why'd you take the o/c apart? That usually is the cause for oil in the coolant.
Retainer p/n is 110827
O-ring p/n 148293
These are old numbers but they can be superceded. Also, your guy is incorrect. I think he just wants to make some...
I'd check it with a known good master gauge before replacing parts. Also, since it's older it might not tolerate synthetic lube. Try going to a 20w50 petrolium based oil
Or you can have them made up for about the same price. Just take a sample to the hose guy and they'll pump them out toot sweet and they'll be new and serialized.
