That would be a no, which is nuts but true the front winch on all 939 series trucks are not for self recovery the -10 clearly states that a second vehicle with a winch is to be used to unmire a truck in deep mud. This means only a 936 can self recover with the rear winch.

Yes 1" way to big was thinking 7/16 or 1/2" climbing type rope plenty strong for pulling the cable out and only 300' as most pulls will be less than 150' and you can always rerig for more length if needed.
Oh and you won't find any Manila rope on my wrecker.
Only going to get a small capstan winch like on a sailboat, not sure where to mount it as I will probably need to be able to use it while letting out line on the big winch. Not sure if it will work or not just trying to get the use of the rear winch down to a two man job not 3+.
Okay guess the old rope goes on the fire. Anyone else use rope on their wrecker? Think I am going to get 300 feet to use for pulling my rear winch line out using the blocks I have and maybe a capstan winch.
To answer the ops question no not even close. And the winch on the back of the 916 is 45.000 lbs. As you saw they make bigger winches, bigger than 5 ton trucks.
Also guys jack up your front end and make sure your lockout hubs are working I have found that about half of mine 10 trucks had one or both hubs stuck some on free and some on lock, one bad enough that it had to be replaced.
Okay so these guys are mostly right, the 939 cab is wider but it has been done. Both as a single cab replacement and as a double cab added to a m35 cab. You will have to use the tilt front nose if you just replace the m35 cab with the 939 cab and fix the steps and battery box, but it can be...
