M1101 Trailer Backing and Brakes Locking

should be able to back it on flat ground without it locking up, but if you try to back it uphill or very soft soil there can be enough resistance to cause brakes to start engaging. Once they start to engage you're fighting a losing battle, they'll just keep engaging further until fully...

    Adding Reverse Lights

For my reverse lights I ran a wire up to the horn in the front. Used a Y splitter so I wasn't cutting any wires, and hooked in on the input side of the horn. horn works when the button on the steering wheel grounds the system, the wires at the horn are live whenever the switch is in the stop...

HMMWV in limp mode no trans light

not likely part of the demil process, more likely some jerk wanted to do it or thought he could use those wires somewhere else or on a different rig. Glad to hear it's working for you now.

Talking to the trucks in front of and behind me in the parade I was in, neither of them heard me when I used my horn. I can barely hear my horn. Just tell them it's "tactically quiet" (don't do that)

Camecho has some multi voltage 4 pin connector cameras. Kind of cheap, but their stuff has decent reviews for the price. https://www.amazon.com/Camecho-Without-Support-Waterproof-Connector/dp/B073PBTY56/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=camecho+24v+vehicle+camera&qid=1577990849&s=automotive&sr=1-11

I've gotten a few laughs from people when following a 5 ton in a parade. Everyone wants to hear the air horn, me following up afterwards with the "beep beep" of the HMMWV horn is usually good for a few laughs. Backing is a major pain, military always required a second person to ground guide...

    Air filter options

http://www.hummerknowledgebase.com/parts/list/005.html has lists of most major manufacturer filters with part numbers. Includes a K&N washable filter, but it's easily twice the price (or more) of the paper ones, and for clean air driving conditions the paper ones last a long time. As far...

First MEP , fixed shaking Oil Pressure senor mounts and other mods

if power is out any anyone within a block or two of you is running a gasoline generator they won't hear the 802. Heck, you might not even hear your own generator if the house next to you is running an open frame gasoline generator. I ran an 802 behind my HMMWV to power some lights for a parade...

    Rear camber

Honestly, if you have a pipe wrench, string, some pencils or small blocks about 1/4" thick and the wrenches for the clamps, it's pretty easy. I just did it a couple weeks ago, and it solved my pulling to the right on a flat road issue (rear left tire too much toe out, and both front tires toed...

I'll second that, if it has the 3 speed going over 55 for anything more than short periods of time is not a good idea unless you want an excuse to upgrade the engine.

    Big 2 Cycle Generator?

Gotta love those 2 stroke detroits. My college diesel shop uses them as the first engine all the students tear apart and rebuild, they have engines 50+ years old that still run like a top.

    Coolant/heater issues?

Thanks for the update, sometimes it's the simple issues that get overlooked. While you are at it, if you want heat, make sure the fresh air inlet in the passenger foot well is closed down so you're recirculating more warm air, rather than always sucking in cold air. That is, if you want to...

    California PG&E outage + generators 10102019

    1) when an emergency happens, you only have the skills and equipment you start with. Very steep learning curve, and modern society is way too pampered to survive without reverting to pure savagery. 2) yes, please get the proper switch, linemen have literally been killed by homeowners doing...

Not all of this will apply to your situation, but make sure you read through this thread for things to look for while doing an initial inspection of the truck https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/leo-fd-hmmwv-check-list-part-numbers.90657/

    Coolant/heater issues?

The warning in the book you posted doesn't apply to the heater operated from the driver's seat. Most likely for either the ambulance or a comms shelter.

    Coolant/heater issues?

Sounds like fan is doing it's job properly, and that the temp gauge is close enough. A lot of these units have issues with the coolant system being gunked up from who knows what happening to them, everything from muddy water being poured in, to incompatible coolants causing chemical reactions...

Some issues: Decals/Stickers & Pass Though Grommet

the "jumping feeling" is most likely the tire being out of round. Sometimes my truck feels really bad at it if the front tires are at the same spots on rotation, the rest of the time it's more of a side to side thing as the flat spots hit the ground at different times. None of the local tire...

Towing weight equation- Do I need trailer brakes?

Yeah, neither am I. I can see a risk of the bluetooth one getting stolen if someone knows what they are looking at, but it really isn't much more than a decent controller installed inside the cab. It's probably the route I will go when I finally get around to a hitch on mine.

Towing weight equation- Do I need trailer brakes?

If you don't want to do any wiring in the HMMWV, there are several brake controllers that mount to the trailer instead of the truck. The first one plugs in between the 7 pin outlet and the trailer harness and uses bluetooth, the second one hardwires to your trailer and uses a FOB to adjust it...
