    Magnetic Drain Plug

This is one of the 8x8 plugs. The bore along the threads is to permit sampling the oil/fuel without completely removing the plug.

    Magnetic Drain Plug

Make you own, drill out the center and cement a powerful magnet in the cavity of the plug.

    Magnetic Drain Plug

Magnetic drain plugs are good. FWIW, the m656/xm757 series trucks, which had many many improvements built in from factory, actually have 20 plus of interchangeable plugs, for drain and fill applications, including differentials, transfer case, brake drums, fuel tank(s) and oil pan. All magnetic...

    XM 818 5th wheel specs

Probably depends on the rear axle capacity and mil requirements off-road etc. My 5-ton has a 5th wheel rated 15,000 lb (45,000 lb total trailer weight).

    Question for off-road experts

Duncan it's not my photo/caption, just one from my files collected over the last several years....it shows one of the m656 8x8 trucks retired from the service in Europe and possibly available to someone like yourself interested in restoring it. Less than 500 were ever made and 90% of them...

    Question for off-road experts

Maybefixit, the cargo version runs without the shocks, so there won't be a problem removing them in this case. Duncan, how far is this place from you (see caption for image below)? About making a video, yes, eventually, but this is a hobby and fortunately no dead lines.....

    Adding a fuel tank

You should consider separate control over the return lines, so that you can "flush" the fuel system after VO use. I have been through a box-full of valves and ended up using dirt tolerant motorized valves for my fuel tank selector system. I think electrical heating is choice, since it wont steel...

Need some help with M936 batteries

Four ea Optima red tops should do you perfectly. The 6TLs are about 750 CC amps and using four batteries will give you more reserve capacity. The battery box is plenty big, have one outside to measure if need be (same as the m925 located under the passenger seat, right?). Edit: It measures...

    Question for off-road experts

There are a few around, prepare to pay extra because of the extensive use of aluminum and since they are rare, parts are hard to come by....I'd love to see more of them saved, one reason for posting images of my 757, actually. This one in Northern FL (image by Jim Henderson). Oh, BTW, these...

    Question for off-road experts

It's better without the shocks, so that's the way it'll be. Thanks for all helpful hints! Learned something new and that's always fun. :-)

    Question for off-road experts

Hauling a ballistic missile (mostly on-road) could have something to do with it. :-) Anyway, it's raining now so I'll drive it again later.

    Mud flap hangers

Finished except for the mudflaps themselves... For you concerned about Aervoe turning pink or whatever, the new paint still matches the rest of the truck, painted over two years ago.

    Question for off-road experts

The spec: "The suspension allows for 4.3 inches of vertical jaunce and 8.8 inches of vertical rebound. Under roll conditions, the wheel can go into 9 inches of jaunce and 8.8 inches of rebound. It can cross a 27 inch vertical step without interferences." The shocks have a 10 inch stroke and a...

    Question for off-road experts

Thanks for the input! At what speed do shocks stop serving a purpose, maybe the bump stops are all that's needed at slow speeds off road?

    Mud flap hangers

From the TM, the eyelets on the wheel hubs are correctly called "anchors", the sling points are on the frame. The eyelets (rear) are also used for airdrop rigging.

M163, M113 bolt on side floats

I have seen APG videos from the 1960s with M548 swimming....newer TMs only have them fording, no swimming requirement. Image below from a site member....the Goat floats pretty high empty, all APG movies pictures I have seen show the vehicles loaded to spec.

    Question for off-road experts

Starting to move the 757 around and looking at suspension components I noticed the limiting effect of the shocks, how wrong is it to have an axle suspended by a shock absorber as shown in the image below? I'm going to run the same test tomorrow without the shocks to see if there is a big...

    Mud flap hangers

Lifting eyelets, these trucks were all shipped to Germany except for some used at Ft Sill (where mine came from), so they all got the lifting and tie down features.
