    Steel Soldiers MVPA Convention Award

Generally, our main purpose is actually not to restore to original state, so we shouldn't use that as a criteria. Any vehicle may qualify, but must be drivable since we have off-road rallies as our main events. I would suggest that vehicle with modifications to maximize performance (easier...

    Tested fuel burning heaters today

So I took the best parts from the two Benmar units I have, cleaned everything and re-installed it on the truck. It was running after 2 minutes and 40 seconds and I let it run for 15 minutes. No smoke in weird places....The shut down sequence took 1 minute and 45 seconds and it smokes at this...

    No brake lights

Perhaps the best wiring diagram for the turn signals that I have found is from the M809 series -20....

    Tested fuel burning heaters today

Tested the Benmar heater for the first time in six or so months and noted smoke in the hot air outlet...not good. Took the whole thing apart and found corrosive damage by the combustion chamber. The double walled structure that feeds air into it is rusted thru in several places. Question: Has...

    No brake lights

FWIW, you need air pressure for brake lights to work if the new (air operated) stop light switch is installed. The hydraulic switch works without air pressure...

    Starting problem

Oldgrunt, look over this diagram (ignore the neutral safety switch). Make sure the jumper wire marked "GND" is making a good connection. Note: The voltmeter may show a good voltage, but if the battery connections are not good, the voltage will drop dramatically when the starter solenoid is...

    Natural Gas conversion 5K genset?

That would be the 10KW, MEP-018A with a Hercules air cooled 4A084 engine.

    Natural Gas conversion 5K genset?

It has been discussed on this forum, a search may be useful. I'm considering doing it also as an alternative to gasoline, actually started collecting parts for a wood gasifier....

"Crisp depression" and "break that arc"....okay, that's just not my way. :-)

    M35A2 Soft Top Conversion

Patrick (OPCOM), try rolling up the back of your top to simulate a bikini top, in my experience the temp inside with my tops, rarely exceeds what you measure in the shade on a sunny day. The white finish on top help reflect the sun also.

a couple questions about the deuce

The deuce is always easily fixable and is in that way reliable. Some parts may deteriorate over time, particularly the steel fuel tank, which causes problems for the IP and related items. I have had my deuce since 1995 and it has really never let me down...wouldn't have driven it cross country...

    Tractor pull results

Don't you all have your text book (TM-8000) handy? :-)

    Tractor pull results

If you take a look at the "Performance" section of the TM-8000 manual, you learn how to calculate the pulling ability of the deuce and any other vehicle for that matter. Also, smaller diameter tires will give better "gear" ratio.

    Starting problem

The deuce starter has two coils, one pull-in and one holding, but you still need to design with the pull-in in mind and the spec sheet actually calls out a max of 70 amps peak IIRC and the deuce starter relay is rated at 50 amps. Checked it and the max permitted in the spec is 81 amps worst...

    Tractor pull results

If the sled doesn't provide a lot of tongue weight, then you need to load up the bed for traction. Of course, I know nothing about this sport.....just a thought...

My BIG M925A2 Project Truck Is Home

Hey Chris, your explanations are excellent, who needs pictures. :-) It must be a pain working away from home, especially when it comes to fittings, I must have 500 total in boxes and can usually find adapters, plugs, JIC types, compression types, nipples etc etc, needed for just about anything...

    Starting problem

Thanks dabtl for the kind words....wildbill, the solenoid on the starter motor may "draw" as much as 60 amps....the starter relay is selected to handle that and the start switch need only handle the coil current for the start relay, which may be in the order of 1 amp or so. You would not want to...
